try Satyricons early releases : 'Dark medievil times' ' the shadowthrone'
dark medievil times is the more medievil sounding of the two ( hence the name)
the shadowthrone still has a similer sound but aslo has more folky eliments

Try Blind Guardian ----but their not dark
Borknagar has kind of a folk sound to them.
I've heard a few Mystic Circle songs and they like the decription you
gave, but I don't know if that's what all of their stuff sounds like.

Actually...I'm surprized I didn't think about this before, but the
perfect band for this would be Bal-Sagoth. Kings of Barbaric Black Metal.
