I'm probably the only member on here that likes Coldplay. I don't like every song, but I can't deny the ones that I do enjoy. They're totally selling out like all the other mainstream bands out there, but hell, I can dig mainstream.
I don't like Muse's new album, but enjoyed tracks off of Absolution & Origins Of Symmetry. I listen to lots of movie scores, and Matthew Bellamy loves those chord progressions (flat Major II, minor IV, Major VII from a minor I). Not to mention building up to the V chord like the build up to Paddy's orgasms.
But to mention a newly formed band that I like way more than either of the above: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. Has like 10 members in it to give them a huge sound (especially live). Mixes rock and country-ish stuff mostly. Pretty happy, mostly, and overall just really interesting to me.
In Summation: VAGINA.

I especially liked Coldplay's album with "Yellow" and "Spies" on it. Great on a rainy day in writing mode. Later some of the songs from the radio were pretty cool.

Shit I love your taste, well distaste in music. I equally despise all of the listed bands. But apparently, those bands are all amazing and I'm biased for disliking 'em.
However, you forgot The Kings of Leon.

I caught them on the local college radio and I totally dug the song they played called " Home". I mean really, its a good song. I checked them out a few days later and didn't really like anything else they had up on their myspace which was a bummer because I thought I found a new band. I need to give them another go though, just to be sure. Never hurts to double check.

You know what doesn't suck? Early Hole. They were pretty good, if you like Grunge. I like Grunge. I forgot I had this CD until a few days ago when I randomly got this song " Violet" (that I have so kindly uploaded to prove me right) stuck in my head. You know what does suck? Fentanyl patches not doing shit for me. Double fuck!
Anyone from CA missing the crazy weather that has now passed? Southern California had fucking tornado warnings! Tornado! California! Here! There was actually one in Costa Mesa. We must have made another deal with the devil or something.

haha that made for a true laugh (but that song is catchy as my own shit).
And yes I was kinda liking the rain over here, damnit. Tornado in SB?? Fuck yea! There were even some flash flood warnings in LA, and I know we need some action over here.
At least it's still kinda cold... I like the cold and it's going to disappear soon.

My main purpose in life is to make you laugh, Sean Penniwinkle. I may now die with honor!
I inadvertently saw them a few years back because they happened to be opening up for Bob Dylan. Of all people..

I probably say something like this once a year, but Lucid Interval really is man's greatest death-grind achievement. Nothing will top it. It is the perfect mix of chaos, musicianship, song writing, innovation, manic aggression, experimentation, humor, and brutalness. Another beautiful thing about this record is that it was not over produced. It's mixed so perfectly and isn't a victim of that loudness bullshit allowing the dynamics to really breathe. Sadly they are like the many that fall after they reach the peak. I wonder what it looked like from up there? I wonder what it felt like to stand up there?
OH DRUGS!
I also totally have a soft-spot for it (the album, not drugs, that launched me elsewhere) because it really launched me into the more extreme metal back in the day (early '02, I believe).

As much as I hate pot, whenever I'm stupid enough to do it and expect different results its usually if I know I'm going to be going home soon just so I can listen to Lucid Interval (or any Sleepytime Gorilla Museum) because it really does bring out a lot more in the record, as if they wrote it knowing how to write certain parts so that only MJ could expose them. I can't believe I just wrote something like that, but its true.
That and I like to jerk-off stoned. Fuck, that's amazing. Still not worth the 2 hour nightmare dementia though.

I`ve never tried to rub one off when I`m stoned. Sounds interesting.
Lately I`m listening a lot to Municipal Waste and slamming Death stuff.
Tomorrow my buddy`s turning 18 and we will party at a local disco, should be fun

I don't understand how some people are able to smoke SO MUCH weed in a single sitting and still function.
I found out that Doxylamine is an awesome OTC sleep aid.
I'm also insanely obsessed with this Korean food market. Everyone in there barely speaks English and some food products don't even have a translation on them... it's incredible. I love all fish foods and dumprings, so it's kinda like walking into a foreign heaven with occasional hot Asian chicks around.

Is it now? Good to know!
I love Korean food in general. Specifically Korean BBQ.. oh God, Korean BBQ.. I was just at my favorite one a few days ago (that is also buffet style, which makes for supreme gluttony!). I do sometimes feel like a newb though because I can't stand kimchi.

I don't even know what that is. I'm kinda n00bish with Korean food, too. When my band played a show forever ago it turned out to be right fucking next to your house, and then afterward we ate at this Asian place... so I'm wondering if it's the same one you like. It had some awesome dumpling things if I remember correctly, and it was all red inside I think.

I had to listen to Lucid Interval on my way to work today since you brought it up Darko/Dyldo. Sadly, I wasn't high because it's generally not a good idea to work in a maximum security state prison high, but now that i'm home, i can change that.

Practice and patience, my friend. You just can't get completely baked too often or you'll turn out like Dystopia.

The thing with this bastard is I think he doesn`t even smoke weed or something like that. He just read somewhere it`s cool and funneh to say you like to smoke weed and so on. He`s just simulating that he`s stoned to be cool in our eyes.
I want to kick his ass

Some smoke and some smoke. And sometimes you smoke it and sometimes it smokes you. There's times I miss the relaxation factor and there's times I miss the medicinal factor like now when I have a headache where I'd like to decapitate myself, but I always liked the giggle and weirdness factor best. I have both without smoking.
Maybe it's just because I did it so much for so long that I can tune into that particular state of mind and immerse myself in it. I can still function in mother mode which I'm never out of and it's a more comfortable feeling than when I did party.

Pot is a weird drug. No other drug has such a hard initial effect, and then fades away with repeated use (over such a short period of time) to allow high functioning while under the influence. To build up that sort of alcohol tolerance would take years, but with pot it takes, like, a week or two. And it takes that long to lose the tolerance as well.
Weird fucking drug.

Pot is boring. I used to smoke it but after a while the novelty kinda wears off. I'm not saying this to be edgy or anything, cause I never really did any other drugs. still trying to get some shrooms though.

Did you smear her's with semen, too?!
Speaking of alcohol tolerance..
" In December 2004, a man was admitted to the hospital in Plovdiv, Bulgaria after being struck by a car. After detecting a strong alcohol odor, doctors at a hospital conducted a breath test which displayed the man's blood alcohol content at 0.914% Concerned that their equipment was malfunctioning, doctors also performed five separate lab tests, all of which confirmed the man's incredible BAC." (Wiki, ref: here)
" In March 2009, a 45-year-old man was admitted to the hospital in Skierniewice, Poland after being struck by a car. The blood test shows blood alcohol content at 1.23%. The man survived. He did not remember either the accident or people he drank with." (Wiki. Ref: here)
That's fucking incredible. God damn Eastern Europeans.

Well, see, the interesting thing about pot, for me, is that, given sufficient time without use, the novelty will be back in more or less full force, which is not true of any other drug that allows for such high functioning during use. At least not when 'sufficient time' = '2-3 weeks at most.'
I had a friend whose BAC was, 13 hours after he'd finished drinking, about .30 - which makes me wonder what it was when he was still drinking.

Dyl'- Ewww. I hadn't thought of that! Doesn't look suspicious, but I'm wearing gloves if I touch it again.
Ozzy was doing an interview on tv this morning about his new book and he was talking about when he blacked out so bad drinking that he tried to strangle Sharon. He said he still remembers none of the incident, but that's the only thing he'd take back from his life if he could. He also said she tried to kill him more than once, but I think he was being sarcastic then. It was pretty cool.
And he's 61 years old! That doesn't seem possible.

Like PST was saying, it seems to come back strong if you take a break or smoke the right stuff. I remember getting RIPPED off of a ROAR at this party... and damn that was fucking psychedelic haha.

How long did you smoke for? I know what you mean about getting used to something and feeling it even when you're off of it. That happens to me with Wake Induced Lucid Dreaming, where I'll enter a lucid dream/astral project totally against my will because I know how to do it now... kinda creepy when you aren't expecting it.
Also from past E MDMA use I'll get these ridiculous serotonin feeling rushes when I think about something happy or times when I've been high lol.

Probably about 25 years at least. I quit as soon as I found out I was pregnant both times and when I was living alone with the kids I quit for about a year and a half.

i could take 3 months off from smoking and start again and it'll never be like when i first started. Granted I will be so high i probably can't function enough to even do simple tasks, but it won't be like when I first started smoking. I don't think that'll ever come back. Even so, i still love smoking and will continue to do so for quite some time.

I wish it didn't make me feel so uneasy at times. Sometimes I can get blazed and be fine but other times I just feel really off. Maybe just a certain strain, but damnit I want consistency in my drugs!
I suppose maybe if you don't smoke enough to get pretty high you'll feel weird, that could be a problem. That can happen with certain drugs if you don't "break through" past a certain threshold.

I think the feelings you described are pretty nature of the beast. If you don't want to feel like that to any degree then don't do it. If you question it, it's for a reason so pay attention to that.

Is anyone in the process of learning a new language? I've been trying to get to grips with Spanish (the Latin American variety) for a while, as well as Irish to a lesser extent, but I can't seem to stay motivated even though I really want to have some degree of fluency.

Icelandic. Languages are a very slow and unmotivating process when you're not in the country or at least taking a class. The former really picks up quickly and is obviously the most ideal way to learn a language but, its hard to dedicate a year+ in another country just to learn a language unless you're really serious about it.
I took Spanish from like... 4th grade all the way to 10th and I'm still not very good with it. I never really tried and of course now I really wish I had put that valuable resource to good use.

A way to get motivated an learn quicker is going to where they actually speak the language. My German, French and Spanish skills jumped when I had to put theory into practise.
I'm almost fluent in German and I can handle myself fine in French, which is quite a feat for a Dutchy. My Spanish is still limited but I can order the important stuff, like cerveza

I know it's much better to live in close proximity with the language you're trying to learn, or to have proper classes, but money and anxiety make that difficult for me, so I just stick with books, software and audio lessons (99% of which are provided by my good friend BitTorrent. I bought proper text books, though). Software is generally useless in my experience, even the $500 Rosetta Stone. Overrated garbage.
I've tried looking for forums in which I could put what little knowledge I have to practical use, but I've yet to find one which works that way, i.e. where you can try to have general conversations in Spanish and more experienced members can correct you and give advice along the way.
I almost signed up for an Open University course, until I realised that I'd have to travel to a college to do the oral side of it. Fuck dat, homes!
Meh, it's not like I need a new language anyway; I'm still butchering this one.

Paddy, I can't point you in the right direction but I know for sure that there are "language helper" forums out there. A friend of mine who is becoming remarkabley fluent in German used one a lot and she mentioned there were many others. I'll try to get in contact with her and find out. If you can't find one then you can always do what Gomli did - join a English speaking forum and stay so long that you actually learn something from all the members irritated corrections. Yay Gomli!
I learned some Estonian a couple days ago. "kaksteist kuud" which means 12 months. Go ahead, say it out loud. With lots of family near by.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T41ZRw45obs God dammit I would rip open the left's hatchet wound in a second. She actually looks like a chick I fucked in Iceland, though with darker hair.

I've been slowly teaching myself German for the last 6 months or so, I can piece together some random sentences... but they aren't really of any use for me haha. I'd like to visit the country eventually to get a better grip on it. I downloaded this language program called Byki and it's actually pretty cool. The only thing I don't like is that there is only one guy doing all the word pronunciation and I'm not exactly sure how common that certain dialect is.
I mainly just like to yell things in German at work to get a laugh out of my coworkers. I thought Österreich was a fucking badass sounding word, so I yelled that late one night and my manager said he heard it on the other side of the restaurant. He questioned me about what it meant thinking I was swearing at him, haha. I didn't know it meant Austria at that time It's funny too because I actually inspired one of my friends to start learning German as well.
I took Spanish for 3 years in school but I never really got a good interest in it. I figured i'd give it a shot since I've got a lot of Spanish heritage, but the language just seems to irritate me more than amuse. I took French for 2 years and like most others, I hated it. But since graduating I actually think French is a really cool sounding language. I really like how it sounds, especially when gorgeous French women are speaking it . French may be what I try to learn after German.

Your English is pretty solid! I can only dream of being able to speak Spanish as well as you speak English.

Shit, cheers! That'd be pretty awesome!
There's a family friend from the Dominican Republic who has offered to teach me Spanish, but the idea of being alone in a room talking to a 25-year-old Latin American woman for extended periods of time is just too much to handle The truth is I'm pretty nervous talking to people in English most of the time. Obviously not so much on forums, evidenced by my excruciatingly long and detailed ramblings It's a shame, because it's like I have a gold mine of free knowledge at my fingertips that I can't access.

Hahahaha! First port of call: learn how to say that second paragraph in Estonian.

I did French in high school for 5 years and I can't remember much more than a few words. I was doing Irish in my first high school in Belfast, but I had to leave there after a few months because of travel sickness. That school was independent from the British education system which is why they offered Irish, and the school I transferred to wasn't so I had to do French instead. Fucking hated it.
I started learning Spanish because I wanted to impress my Mexican girlfriend, what with me being an incurable romantic n'all. Granted the only words I learnt at the time involved strap-ons and chilli pepper suppositories.
The aforementioned family friend works with my mum and she's been teaching her Spanish swear words, which is pretty funny haha. Hearing "puta madre!" echoing around the shop never gets old.

That'd be a really great resource and opportunity if you can get yourself to give it a shot. Maybe you could have her come to your house? It might not work out like you said, but you should at least give it one chance as it'd be a great thing to take advantage of. It isn't everyday that a qualified person offers to teach you a language for free. And its even better than the above mentioned college course as you don't have to worry about all the hassle and shit that can come with. You never know, maybe you two will have good chemistry and you'll be able to be more relaxed and actually work with her and drastically improve your Spanish. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work, and the worst that can happen is that you have to deal with feeling uncomfortable/anxious for a small period of time, but at least you gave it a shot. As Woody Allen has said countless times, there's nothing worse than a missed opportunity.
I know anxiety is pretty horrid thing, I've got a diagnosed case of Generalized Anxiety Disorder myself, but things are almost always never as bad as we expect them to be.

It's quite easy to forget that though, which is half the problem haha, but you make a good point. I'll definitely think about it, and I'm fairly friendly with her already so maybe over time I'll feel more comfortable. Her husband is fluent in Spanish and German and they're both now learning Italian, he's one of those guys who can just pick up a language at will and become adept in a matter of months. I envy people with minds like that, by which I mean I wish they'd die of plane crashes. Ha!

Yeah, its always the most basic, obvious truths that we so easily forget and have to learn all over again for some reason. Very frustrating on the second or third run through, too.
Well I sincerely hope that you do at least try it out and am happy to hear I've motivated you some. It really sounds like a good, promising opportunity and there's nothing to lose or suffer from in anyway.
I totally envy those people too as they're usually also gifted in other fields also. They don't know hard work, god dammit! However, I don't wish them to die in plane crashes. No, no - that'd be much too painless.

Too true son, too true. It's funny, when you're talking to someone who has these sorts of problems you can advise them and help them see that things probably aren't all that bad and that they might not be thinking fairly/rationally about the situation, so the information is apparently on-hand for dissemination (what a cool word) but somehow it doesn't occur to you that it can apply to yourself as well. The mind's a weird little place alright.

you're good at this. You should become a therapist, or man the phones at The Samaritans!

Some people develop almost superhuman mental abilities after accidents or other physical traumas, so the implication is that these skills are in all of us but are, for whatever reason, inaccessible. Evolution really fucked us with a metal spike on that one, eh? haha
I tried improving my memory with mind-mapping and similar tricks a couple of years ago, and found that I couldn't get beyond remembering the items on a fairly long list, and remembering their position on the list (maybe 40 - 50 items at a time). The time it took to memorise them using mind-mapping (i.e. by making up a little story and using each list item and its corresponding number as a "plot point") was too much of a pain in the ass to make it worth while. If I need to memorise a one-off list for something important it'll be fine, but in general it's a largely useless exercise outside of party trickery. Have you (or anyone else) tried anything along those lines?

Yeah, and I think that has mostly to do with emotions really obscuring reality as they're much stronger than our frontal lobes would like to admit and not being consumed by them really helps the other person be much more objective that the person with the issue could ever hope to be. The mind is fucked. It's the source, but also the cure, for all of our problems.

I try and develop this skill so that I can use it for evil purposes, like convincing someone to off themselves. Once I've mastered the negative approach, I'll start my own cult and I bet you'd be totaly qualified to join! Really though, I am studying Psychology with the intent of doing either research in a yet to be decided field or get a license and practice CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).

The "funniest" accounts of dramatic positive changes from physical traumas are the botched suicides or other strange accidents that somehow totally ends up curing their clinical depression or the like that, in some cases, caused them to harm themselves in the first place.

I have never tried anything like this "mind mapping" technique nor have I heard of it. It sounds interesting but I don't think I'd ever consider putting any time into it mainly because it sounds like a lot of work and since I don't do anything that requires a huge amount of flawless recollection it wouldn't be a very valuable ability out side of said party tricks. And as you mentioned, if I need to memorize something specific once in awhile I can. I'd like to see the average improvement rates for something like this though, along with its duration after a person has stopped practicing it. HUMPH!

I didn't realise your were studying psychology! I think I would have gotten into that if I hadn't become the quitting waster that I am
I had about 5 months of CBT between 2007 and 2008, and I think it has helped somewhat but not as much as I had hoped. It may have been because the therapist I had was a trainee, and I was basically a practise run for her (if I had wanted to wait for a fully qualified therapist I'd have had to have waited another 6 months, and I'd already waited a year, so I took what was on offer in desperation). She seemed to know what she was doing, and I can't fault her for anything specific, but not being a shrink myself it's hard to know what to look for in terms of what's good shrinkin' and what's not. I guess the fact that I'm only marginally better off is probably reasonable proof that it could have been conducted better. My main gripe with it was the fact that I was intensely anxious the whole time, which severely impeded my ability to think straight and convey/process information effectively, but I would say that putting the client/patient at ease is part of the trade and she didn't really do that, and in fact showed signs of boredom and impatience on a few occasions (not a good feeling...at all). Maybe I'm expecting too much haha, maybe I'm too far gone for conventional mind-probing!

The mind-mapping idea is basically the process of creating very strong associations with the things you need to remember and to recall on demand, by linking them to stories or items in your house or another very familiar place which you wouldn't have any problem remembering. I think it's a bit dubious to be honest, even though the likes of Derren Brown swear by it. It's barely more convincing than the scan reading technique by which you literally run your fingers down each page of a book, following them with your eyes, and that you are then in possession of most of that knowledge, albeit for a short period of time unless you revise it. I'm sure the brain is picking up all of the info, but accessing it effectively is a different matter. I could scan read a hundred books in a matter of minutes but if I can't then put what I've read to practical use, or to simply recall it with some degree of clarity without undergoing hypnosis or the like, I may as well have ran my fingers down a public toilet wall and absorbed the vital and salient information often scrawled there in excrement.

Ever buy some electronic merchandise, to come all the way home...and find at the bottom it says that. Surely is the reason god kills babies.
Man nights of nonsleep suck. Ever do school work for a couple of hours, then try to cut the old brain off and find it wonders through a nonstop corridor of past memories.

This place is like a soap opera. You don't watch for 2 months and the same people are doing the same things only with different partners.
The Ex'- If you'd grown up in my generation you'd just assume that nothing comes with batteries. I can't think of anything except vehicles that did.
Pr0'- "try to cut the old brain off and find it wonders through a nonstop corridor of past memories." -- Oh, I love that line!!! I do that without the exhaustion factor.
