I have a slightly similar memory, except I was about 4 or 5. I was walking around in one of the local instrument shops with my father and my eye caught one of those Dan Armstrong basses. It was the first time I had ever seen one and I was in fucking awe. Then my father comes along and says "They sound bloody terrible... if the body isn't made of wood there's no sustain or resonance". That was the day that I learned a valuable lesson - sound is much more important than appearance

We do jam from time to time, but not in the sense that we actually play songs together, which wouldn't really work with two basses haha. When we do sit down and 'jam', it's more like exchanging bass lines that we know. For example, I might show him a little bit of a ska line to see how long it takes him to pick it up, and then he'll show me a reggae or blues line to see how long it takes me to get it down. So it's basically more like a mutual practice session haha

Good idea I know fuck-all about hardware, so it'd be useful for me to have the pros and cons of various guitars laid out by the reviewer. I've been playing the same Squire Strat for 10 years, and as much as I'd like a new guitar I wouldn't even know where to begin, so reviews of specific instruments would help improve my knowledge of guitars in general. I reckon it'd be a good idea to also include YouTube clips of the reviewer playing a few riffs and demonstrating the various features. Would you be up for that, Wolf?

10 years for both you and Chris is waaaay to long to still be playing on a fucking Squier. You're obviously dedicated enough to guitar that it'd be a good investment to buy a new one. I would go into your local guitar shop and play every guitar you can. Go online and check out the prices and read some reviews and figure out where you want to buy it. Since you're so into the Squier I'd give a serious look at some other Fender models, namely a Telecaster. If you've got the cash then maybe even a Strat. I've actually been considering selling my Jackson Soloist and getting a Tele (particularly a black Tele Custom).
