Tips on lead.

Can someone help me out with learning how to play faster? I wan't to learn to play faster, but no matter what I do, I still fucking suck and I don't get better. Everyone alway''s tells me to practice and I will practice about 5 hours a day for a month on the same song and i still can't play somethig that fast, it' the same as when I started. So if anyone has anything that they think I should do to get better at it then please let me know. Hail!!

Get a metronome and learn the scales that are posted at the top of this thread (Sticky).

Learn the Harmonic and Pentatonic first. And if you need help with the metronome (it can be tough getting the beat with 16th notes) PM me. There is a online metronome at wholenote.com (bottom left of the screen its a triangle with a line through it)

chromatic scales is all notes (all semi tone) : E F F# G G# A A# B C C# D D# E


play some things like that
D------------------------------------------------------
A------------------------------------------------------
E--1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10--etc--and back-------

B--------------------------------------1-2-3-4---------------------2-3-4-5

play it on ALL the fret board... And Backward ( 4321)
mix the fingering : ex 1324, 1423 etc...

the best tip to play faster: Metronome, and START SLOWLY speed will come with time, dont try to play too fast, you'll play bad for sure. learn some scales too

ive had similar probs, but im getting faster now.

all i did was try to play fast while improving accuracy. just balls out speed.

and of course, im getting the hang of it now. metallica leads are almost under my belt now, after a couple of weeks.

im gonna try slayer shit in the next week or so. but i reckon its also attitude.
if you dont think you can get up to speed, then youre fukked already.
but i thought, well, im gonna play as fast as i can no matter what fukks me up. and play faster and faster.

its working.

mind you, im a rhythm guitarist and i no probs with anything slayer or napalm death have released..

Maybe you're trying to play something not suited to your ability. Start out with an easier solo then work up to something more difficult. The first solo I ever learned was Hammett's Sad But True Solo. Then I started getting into stuff a bit harder and faster (quite a few years later) Sometimes playing that much a day may not be good, take a break every once in a while. But practice is the key, start slow and build up your speed. It will come. Some techniques take years to master.

Alright man, thanks a lot. I will try to find some song's that are kind of hard but not too hard to play and keep trying them until I get it and practice it for about a week or two and then I'll move on to another song that will be harder or faster. Hail!!!

to become good at lead u need to know ur scales, i started off learning metallica leads which r all based on scales, good easy metallica solo to start on would be nothing else matters solo or the first one solo
