I recently re-stringed my bass and now I have a problem. The restringing itself was no problem, but these new strings make me sound so different. I used to kind of sound like a jazz bass but now it's got more of a metalic sound. Is this just because my strings were so worn and dull that the new ones sound stupid could I have bought a special kind of strings by accident? They are Fender mediums, and my bass is a Fender so ... I don't know ...

Also why does it say I have 13 posts here ... I've posted more than that haven't I ?!?

it's simple, new strings sound bright
the old one's where clogged up with dirt and shit, but you new strings will sound like your old one's in no time. but less dull, they'll sound less bright though.

it takes a matter of days.

Regarding your other question, maybe you've posted in threads that have been deleted, because those won't count. I don't know if that's the case, because I haven't deleted any threads lately, or very many posts, and I don't think yours were among the posts I had to get rid of.

Yeah dude don't worry about it.....new strings always have that glassy/metallic sound.....just keep playing it lots and your skin oils and such will get em a bit dirty again and they will go back to a nice thuddy sound....and dont use a pick! you wanna get them nice and oiled up with the fingers on your plucking hand....shouldnt use a pick anyways so yeah. Anyways, p3ace 0ut....and keep the low end!

i dont play bass so...do bass strings ever break?! i know a guy that plays regurly and has had the same pair for like two years

Haha the strings on my first bass didnt break for 2 years! and now when i play they break every now and then! (well the G does) its probably because i have this triplet pop thing and its quite harsh on the string.. or maybe i should switch to .050 string gauge's for the G.

my E string has been broken once.........i was gonna jam with my ex-band so we were tuning our guitars....so while tunin it the E string got extremely tight n after some tight it was lying on the floor in 2 pieces

They do break, but only if your tune it too sharp (and it snaps), or you have them on there forever...I mean like, literally forever.

And on the topic, yea. Me and CC went to Music go round and I got new strings, I heard the sound and I was like "oh crap...wrong strings..." but I just kept jamming, and I found out I just needed to break them in. Only takes a few days from continuous play to break them in, so don't worry.

Oh, tatter3d... Hartke bass .045, .065, .080, and .105s kick butt. Takes a while to break them in, but they're worth the $10 for all four

Yeah probably are man, because of that extra 5. Standard bass measures are .040 .060 .080 .100

Oh and 10$?!?! you lucky bastard! here the bass strings are £25 a set, which is like $55!!
