Gibson SG Faded Special
Has anyone played one of these yet? I play an SG standard and am looking for a good backup guitar with close to the same tone. I've seen the faded for only like $549 at brook mays, which seems too good to be true for a brand new gibson. Does it sound like a gibson or is it just a low end piece of crap?

i've prolly played that one sometime or another, I like to play SGs any time i can. I'm pretty sure it'll sound just like it. If your not sure, then just go to the store and play it.

I love SG's I wouldn't mind picking up a few more for different tuning options.. i've got a Gothic SG.. I've noticed that SG's tend to be cheaper than Les Pauls so I would assume that this model is on the low end side. But it's still a Gibson.. If you just want it for a backup guitar, go for it.

i bought one
well, i decided to buy one and i'm pretty happy with it. the tone is actually pretty different from my standard, but it doesn't sound bad. i got the faded brown. looks pretty retro. there's only a few things i don't like too much though. the tuning keys are kind of a cheap looking plastic, but they can be replaced. also, i'm not sure if this is just normal for all the sgs, but the body is 2 pieces of wood instead of one piece. i can't tell if this is the case with my standard because it's painted, but you can tell with the faded because it's just stained and you can see the seam. i'm not real crazy about the half moons in the fret board either. looks like they were left over from the goths and just added to the faded to give it a queer touch. but still, you can't beat the price for a new gibson sg that sounds great. anyways, if anyone knows about the 2 piece body, let me know.

dude, your paying 549 bucks for this guitar, if it has all that many problems with it, then just get something else. Hell, you should be glad you have the chance to just get up and spend 549 bucks for a guitar. Be grateful, not a critic.

hey nothing, i didn't just dig 550 bucks out from under the couch cushions to pay for it. i did the same thing that any of you could do. i worked my ass off, ate fucking ramen noodles every day, and saved up for a long time to afford it. i wrote the review to help other people who might be looking to buy the same guitar, not to whine about it. and i don't feel lucky that i could afford it, but i do feel lucky that i have the motivation to get up off my ass and work really hard to achieve a goal.

ok, i didn't know that, just the way you were talking about everything kinda made it seem like you just were able to get up and get it. And by the way, ramon noodles kick fucking ass.
