Floyd Rose
This may sound like a really "beginner" sorta question, but I'm sick of only having my Les Paul with no bar. I think I'm going to buy a Jackson.I had a strat-lookin thing with a bar that sucked horribly, but I've heard many good things about Floyd Rose systems, and I just wanted to know some basics about it, mainly with tuning. how much of a bitch is it to tune with a Floyd Rose, and do they really hold up as well as most people I've heard say they do?
Thanks

get a floyd. yeah, it probably will be a pain in the ass at first, but once you get used to it, you're golden.

floyds will be hard like shit to tune at first, infact if you do get a floyd rose, you might wanna come back to the board for some sites on tips for how to do it. But get the jackson, the floyd will keep in tune, and it will be great once your used to it.

i got a floyd. in fact my 1st guitar had one it was my dads old one from the 80s lol but anyway it took me alil while to fig. out how to tune it like evertime id tune it and lock it it would go out of tune agin only becuase i didnt kno how to use the tuners on the actully floyd. so ya tune it like u want lock it and if it goes out of tune agin tune it with the tuners on the floyd. after that it should stay in-tune for a good while.

you'll break strings, just not as easily as with a different bridge.

dont get a floyd rose bridge guitar if you'll be changing your tunings on it alot. I have 2 jacksons, both with floyd roses, and i keep those in the same tuning all the time. Which is why i have a cheap 100 dollar epiphone that i use to play numerous songs that i just keep upstairs with my 15 watt dean markley amp just to fool around.

The only time I ever tune down w/ my BC Rich Warlock is for dropped-D. Otherwise I leave it in the
standard tuning. Slayer usually tunes down a half step, and I've submitted tabs for two of their
songs in standard, played along w/ the album and it sounded OK. I don't do any In Flames tabs
'cause they tune to C I think, which sucks becuase I really like them. By the way, does anybody know what tuning the Napalm Death song "Contuning War on Stupidity" is in? Do you at least know
what tuning they use msot of the time?

don't do that...You'll find that the bridge will keep rising more and more and put strain on the neck...You have to take apart the back of your axe and tighten or loosen those two screw in the body (tighten if the bridge is raised up and loosen if its slanting down). The whole goal is to get the bridge parallel to the body.
ex) say your in E and you want to tune down a 1/2 step...go ahead and tune to Eb and then you'll notice its out of tune...you have to loosen the screws a little (maybe 1 full turn or a little more) so the strings will pull up the bridge...it takes a while to play around with
NOTE: Always make sure the screws are equally tight.

dude, you always have to do that, if your tuning to a different tuning then your floyd is used to, then it'll raise, unless you want your guitar to sound stupid and not in tune, then you have to tune more then once, or else the strings will be out of tune.

I was giving the solution to SlayedJesus's problem....You posted that comment right after his so i assumed you were telling him to keep tuning it over and over.

yeah, i meant it to slayedjesus's problem, but i meant when tuning, you have to go through the strings up and down more than once until they're in tune, like if your putting new strings on a floyd rose for say, you can't just go from low e to high e once and expect it to stay in tune.

Yeah man, I have a Westone guitar, (they aren't made anymore but really good guitars) but it has a floyd rose on it, and you don't even have to loosen the nuts at the top of then neck before you tune, you leave them tight and just tuine from the tuning keys at the tope and it still tunes it. My friend up the street has one and I can;t tune it either, it's a pain in the ass, and he bent it all th way up and messed it up because you can go in the back to put it down, but he bent the metal on it and it's screwed, but yeah mine is awsome since you don't have to do nothin but just go ahead and tune.
