hey i want to get good strings that can be tuned up and down, have good sound that lasts and is durable. tip: i play metal. can you give me some suggestions?

you play metal no shit this is only a fucking metal board anyway i think the higher gagues work better 11-48 at lest dean marklys are pretty good along with the old ernie balls im sure others can suggest others im too tired to hink right now

10's are good all around strings

10s cant hold low tunes, they de-tune real quickly, id go with 11s.

I use Regular Slinkies, 10's.

brands: dean markley/blue steel, d'addario, ernie balls, ghs. depends what sort of tone you want. d'addario are probably the most aggressive sounding of the lot, as used by SLAYER.

as for gauges,

id say, go with 52-11

this will take you down to a comfortable C#.

d'addario 11's are great, but it can be a bitch osmetimes to solo real well wiht them. I just recently bought some 10s.

hmm....well, i don't break that many strings and i don't find them too thin. i think they are easier to do crazy bends and shit. and i don't detune either so.....

i can't stand ernie ball strings. I love d'addario's or DRs. D'addarios kick ass for guitars and bass.

you do have a point there about bends. the 9's dont need to be as tight to get up to tune so i guess the slacker strings make for easier bends.
9's are good for standard tuning. they have a nice clean sound. but once you detune 'em they become too slack and then the tuning becomes terrible.

ya, that's about right. i once droped the low E string down to a G to try to play underground in america by pantera, let's just say it didn't sound the greatest.

i just put some 9s on both my jackson, 9-46 though, but i've got one jackson tuned down one step, and the other one tuned to c (no, not drop d and down one step). And they still kick ass.

I use ghs boomers. If your going to be tuned anywhere from a standard 440 tuning down to a C tuning 11 gauges will probably due you pretty good. I can't think of the guage of the low E string write now but the packages usually just have the gauge of the high E string in big bold numbers anyway.

i always use ghs 9-42's. I tune in standard and they do fine. For about 2 or 3 months though i was a whole step down and they still did fine. I figure its just what you are most comfortable with.

Get either ernia ball or Dean Markley strings, get the 11's because 10's suck for tuning low for metal and if you have 9's on your guitar right now then you will have to get your action set on your guitr, and if I were you I would bring your guitar to a shop to get the action set because if you don;t really know how to set it then you'll fuck it up so just let someone else do the action and the strings while your at it too. But yeah get 11's they won't go out of tune when your tuned low as easy as 10's man!! Good luck and Hail!!!!!!!
