Should I buy a B.C. Rich Warlock?
As the thread's title says I'm interested in buying a Warlock. I'm trying really hard to save the money for it (I'm thinking about a second-hand one).
So, my questions are:
- Can u tell me an estimative price from your local musical instruments store (SH or FH) ? Here in Romania we don't have a BC Rich distributor, so I'll have to buy one from outside the country (or from someone who brought it from outside Romania).
- For those of you who own one or played on one: Does it worth the money? Can I obtain a good tone for death metal (I am the guitar and vocal player in a death metal band, VEPRES. Somethig like Six Feet Under)
- Is the Beast better?
I'd appreciate any kind of information you can give me!

i have a b.c. rich warlock n.j. series. It was ok when i got it but i put new pickups in it and a new bridge...now it kicks ass! .....if you buy one, i recommend putting an emg 81 on the bridge and an 85 on the neck.

To answer your last question, as far as I know, the only differences between the Warlock and Beast is the body style...but I haven't checked into it or anything. Personally, I like the Beast's body style better.

I've heard that they are okay depending on what series you b-b-buy. They're around 100-600$ in the U.S. last time I checked at my music store. Warlock or beast? I haven't played either, never was interested, but as walpurgis said, the only thing I saw different with them is their body style.
My only advice I could think of is, don't buy a red one with an orange glow! I found those hideous. Nightmares.

I say go for it. I've got both a platinum series and NJ series warlock...but ever since I've gotten the NJ the platinum has basically just sat around collecting dust. If you're going to get one I highly recommend getting the NJ. There's a world of difference between the two.

I like a Warlock more than that, but still nothing beats a black Explorer

BC Riches have always been "trendy" so I dont know what you're talking about. People are buying them because of their looks.
"Oh wow, the look is so radicial! Surely if I play this people will think I'm rebelious. And it won't matter how good it plays... people won't know, just look at it! Im sure it could cut a piece of frozen steak..."
They must supply the demand!! How many guitar companies start to become crapified guitar makin' companies!!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Sadly the BC Rich guitars were adopted by the heavy metal musicians during the early 80's, not for their high quality tone woods, not for their innovative neck double octave "24 fret" neck through body design, but for their radical nonconformist shapes. This guitar was something Mom and Dad and their lame Woodstock generation granny glasses wearing', Volvo Driving', 60's Hippie turned Yuppie traditional notions were not going to approve of. "Radical Dude"
Timing is everything...
BC Rich Guitars enjoy a small niche of very loyal very dedicated fans. However this writer's opinion is that BC Rich were slightly ahead of their time "to their own detriment".
Whenever a new music genre comes on the scene the first people to pioneer it usually are not accomplished musicians, When Rock N' Roll was young nobody could play real well and every song was a 3 chord progression. When metal started it was mostly an off shoot of very young 70's Kiss fans who at an early age simply had not perfected their chops. Thusly their first guitars were BC Rich cheaper models that were imported under licensing agreements and bore no resemblance to the original models except that they shared the same shapes. This did irreparable damage to BC Rich in the long run. Many people believe falsely that BC Rich was just a low end low quality guitar because they have never been exposed to the handmade models. You're too kind(no, I insist that you are)...
I never said "Oh... dont buy a rich, they'll be the death of you!! Waaaahh!" In a earlier post I said "They're okay depending on what series you buy." And it's fucking true. I'd rather get one of those neck-thru series than one of those 99$ discount ones at the music shop.
Also quoting my whole post ealier was abit the extreme, you should have just pointed out what ticked you off, unless all 320 words (1631 characters, 15 sentences) did.
Anyways, good luck on picking out your guitar Vepres

Ed Roman is a jackass and a cock monger. There's a reason he got his ass kicked at NAMM.

I would never buy an import BC Rich.. I think they're trash. I've played on warlocks platnium and N.J. and Beasts alike.. I've also played on an Acrylic and an american made BC.. The warlocks and beasts were cheap and sounded just the same.. the acrylic was ungodly heavy.. you couldn't hold that thing through a 40 minute set unless you were a cyborg.. But the American made was incredible.. I played on a 7 string ignitor it was fuckin' awesome.. I wasted my money on bullshit guitars because I thought "hey it's a guitar what could be the difference between a 1,000 dollar one and a 400 dollar one" Well the difference is huge.. And I won't ever make that mistake again.. Just my $.02 though..

Hailz!
Thanks for you all who gave me advices.
I also have looked on some reviews an the Internet about these guitars and I've made up my mind: I'll go for a B.C. Rich Warlock NJ Series, black 24 frets and FR.
I like the cool shape of th Beast better, but I don't know if it worths the money difference (100$ or maybe more).
I also saw that B.C. Rich sels some guitars with minor blems (a scratch or chip in the finish) as B Quality, 100-200$ cheaper. I won't mind it for a good discount.
So, anyone who has an NJ Warlock or Beast for sale just name a price ! My e-mail: vepresrott@hotmail.com .
Hope you'll be helpfull !

I disagree, the beast has a totally different feel to it, The warlock is easier to play, the beast is a poser guitar

Not that I've noticed. The beast is the only body style of B.C. Rich's that I like or would want to play.

B.C. Riches are fucking piles of shit. Buy one if you like weight lifting/being gay.
If you're in a band playing music like Six Feet Under, my advice is to stop making music.

Why the hell do you have to ask that question, if you wan;t to buy it then buy it, it's not what other poeple like it's what you like. Are you going to buy a guitar that you think is shitty and you hate and then ask someone if they like it and if they do then you'll buy it?

And a Beast and Warlock sound identical...just shaped different.

For me it's pretty hard to get one to play on it, because we don't have a shop where i can try one. I'll have to buy one through snail mail.

I've heard a lot of bad stuff about the "normal" BC Riches, but the customshops would be half decent I imagine, though it seems they'd be out of your price range. I'd heartily recommend a Jackson, though as will all "normal" guitars you will need to replace the pickups but the body and necks are awsome.

I own the Platinum Pro Warlock with a floyd rose trem...
Even though it is a cheaper version of the guitar, $500, it still sounds really good...
The looks are killer and the stock BDSM Humbuckers really ain't that bad. I get an amazing tone with them when using D'addario Strings through a Marshall Amp...

i wouldnt recomend getting a new bc rich, quite frankly they are extremely overpriced ($1000 for a guitar thats made in korea, liscensed floyd and shit pickups - fuck that)
get a 90s or 80s japanese or usa bc rich
the japanese are fucking sick and hugely better made than the koreans,
obviously get a usa one if you can........
as for shape, there is nothing different about the beast to the warlock except that it is total overkill and as someone said it is for posers.
bc rich dont suck, but their new korean made guitars do.

I own both a Bronze Warlock which I dont play anymore and an NJ Beast which I love!! For you who said that the beast looks like it was drawn by a 5th grader, it was actually designed by Brian Hoffman (ex-Deicide). I own a BC Rich and in NO way do i think im rebellious like one of you fucktards inferred about bc rich owners.
to the original thread starter:
the difference between the warlock and beast is obviously the shape, play both and decide for yourself which is better, more comfortable, etc... Personally I think the beast is much more comfortable, i have a Dimarzio X2N in the bridge and a Dimarzio PAF Pro in the neck, sounds awesome. i'll post pics of my guitar in that other thread pretty soon in cae y'all wanna see it.
PS bc rich's dont have to be altered to soud good, look around and actually play one, not a bronze one though, a lot of people bitch about bc rich but they probably only have played the bronze series. play a good one and then bitch about it
EDIT: i dont think bc rich guitars are over done, if you look around there are other guitars that are far crazier looking. check out neal moser's guitars. For those of you who like that plain look, the strat body is fine for you, but some like the absract look of bc rich guitars and other guitars like 'em. we all have different opinions, stop bitching.

heres the only answer you need. even though its been answered many times. if you get a crap one its gonna be crap. more money the better instrument with those. if you get a cheap one you sohuld invest in new pickups and maybe a bridge.

exactly.
I actually love the Licenced floyd on my NJ Warlock. A new bridge pikcup and it's great. Although when the time comes for a refret, I'll get jumbo frets put in, the current ones are a little small.

I can't speak on the newer models, but if you can find an older model ( mine is an 1984 NJ Warlock) buy it. Low action, good tone, just switch out the stock pickups and you're golden. I put an Invader in the bridge and it's a dream.

Actually platinums aren't too great, but if you get them cheap(200$ ish) you still got some spare cash to upgrade(pickups, tuners, etc.).
The year and model of production will make HUUUUUUUUUUUGE difference on the build quality. I had an NJ Ironbird from 2000 with a NJ Warlock's neck and though it sustained ok, the playability was pretty lame, neck was bulky as fuck, not to mention the quality of the wood was laughable. And stock BC rich pickups will sound like absolute gobshit no matter what you do, you might as well take a paperclip and coil it around a refrigerator bar-shaped magnet and toss it in your guitar.
But now I have a new NJ Ironbird, apparently older than my previous one. Has an uber-thin neck, Ibanez-style all-access-neck-joint. Nice looking cosmo black hardware, EXCELLENT playability upon setup, and the crappy corroded licensed trem it has will be replaced with an OFR in a matter of weeks. It doesn't hurt to add that it has an EMG 81/85(installed by previous owner and came with a case, got it all for 350$ in nearly immaculate condition. This guitar is CERTAINLY not all about the looks, it has the playability and solid construction to back it up. Unfortunately this can't be said for most of the more recently made import BCR's.
If you want good BCR's, shop around for 80's models or heavily upgraded more recent models. Or of course USA made BCR's, if you've got the cash. But for more money efficient and easier to find instruments you'd best go buy something from Washburn, Ibanez, used Jacksons, etc.
I fucking love my Ironbird. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...AMEWN%3AIT&rd=1
and the pics don't do it justice, it's way better than in those pics. I'm selling the EMG pups btw, going passive on this axe.

I do think it depends heavily on the individual guitar. It all seems pretty hit and miss with BCR.
Although it must be said, if you buy into the cheaper ranges (Bronze, Platinum), you know it's going to miss...

Getcha a Warlock...Im telling you man, Getcha a Warlock!!!!
Not only is it the Sexiest guitar I've ever seen, along with the Jackson RX10D, but its also very versatile...You can play it comfortable between the legs, side legged, and standing up...Its PHENOMENAL!!!!
But thats just my opinion...
