Mellow doomish bands
when some of the doomish metal bands go toward a more mellow sound, it always sounds great, what are some of the albums by these bands that have done it?
so far, I know that the album "Host" and the album after "Host" by Paradise Lost are supposed to be mellow
What My Dying Bride albums have the mellow sound? Their newer stuff is supposed to be a return to the old sound. I have "The dreadful Hours" and it is quite growlish. Is "34.7888% Complete" the mellow album?
Is At the Gates a Doomish band? Mellow albums?

I also STRONGLY suggest October Tide. All the october songs rule i havent found one bad one, my personal favorits are 12 days of rain, into deep sleep, all painted cold, and losing tommrow. I personally think there better than evoken. Novembers Doom is good to shadows of light and Silent tommrow are there best.

I would srtongly recommend Forest of Shadows. Their song Eternal Autumn is probably my favorite gothic/doom song. Probably more along the lines of gothic though with some nice clean vocal parts if that matters.

Fuck 34.788% complete! "Turn Loose the Swans" and "The Angel and the Dark River" are by far better records imo! not least due to the presence of Keyboard/Violin meastro, Mr Martin Powell! (currently of CoF!) without the violins MDB seemed to lack much of the mellowing effect that they had around the '93-95 period!
as for other bands, check out Anathema's "Serenades" and "Pentacost III" their new album has been likened to Pink Floyd, so maybe that's more what you're looking for in this instance...no growling etc! it's called "A fine day to exit"
Host was a big departure for Paradise lost it is their mellowist but also least well-written record! "Draconian Times" is universally held as their best, though it's also their heaviest! I'm not really up on newer Doom Bands, but those Bradford bands (MDB, Paradise Lost et al) are fairly well known by most here, so...

I have "A Fine Day to Exit", its pretty good, al lot like"Judgement", but a bit more mainstream (are all the solos gone?)
I like the albums that the doom bands have that other people say are sell out albums. I have "Host" on mp3, its ok, but I like their songs like "One Second" a lot better. When almost all the guitars are gone, like in "Host", it doesn't sound as good. 34.7888% is so far the biggest MDB "sell out" album, from what I have heard, Aaron does a lot of clean vocals..........

yeah Aaron did all clean vocals on "the Angel and the Dark River" too, only I think it's fair to say that the songwriting was better back then cos the lineup was stronger. some of the songs on that record mix heavy and mellow extremely well, "Your Shameful Heaven" for example. personally I stoopped listening to Anathema after Darren White left (after Pentacost III) so I only have their first two records. But from what I am told they have radically changed on "A fine Day" and are basically not the same band anymore!
it's still hailed as a pretty good "sell out" album by the diehard bunch though, so I'm sure it has it's merits!

I just got 34.788% today. Its pretty good with all clean vocals (and 1 song even has a guest female!), however, yes, without a keyboardist, the songwriting is weaker......... MDB needs more male/female songs
Thats why I like goth metal so much, its like doom stuff, but with lotsa keyboards and a slew of different vocalists..........
New Anathema is like Katatonia. There is almost always some acoustic guitar being strummed, and the guitar distortion is lighter. More keyboards get used, but it is still guitar based music. All clean vocals too.............

Does "Like Gods of the Sun" have Aaron doing all clean vocals?
What are all the MDB albums where Aaron does almost all clean vocals?
