I think the song called Obscura by Gorguts ... it switches a lot from 1 kind og blastbeat to another + other stuff....i think it's the most technical song i've heard yet

No technical isnt fast double bass its just fast double bass, lol. Technical playing is that of Iron Maiden's Nicko McBrain, MegadetH's Jimmy Degrasso(mostly live). Check out any of Iron Maidens later albums like Powerslave, thats a perfect example. Or better yet there newest one Brave New World , he gets very technical on that album. Both Jimmy, and Nicko can play polyrhythmic syncopated beats, meaning playing at different tempos with different limbs at the same time. ITs not just called 'playing in two different time signatures', thats the idiots term.

Messhuggah drummer is excellent with polyrthyms and both Nile's and Hate Eternal's drummers are technical wizards, but my favourite piece of technical drumming can be found on Rush's "Hemispheres" or "Farewell to Kings".
More time changes than a cheap watch and incredible dexterity.
Neil Peart going absolute ballistic.

Listen to Kings of the Carnival Kreation from about 5:00 to 5:30. I know Barker is known for really fucking quick double bass but this is simply technical drumming. Well I think so anyway.

At least someone knows what they're talking about. Meshuggah is my favorite band. Was that guy trying to say that metal doesn't get technical? Well, of course it doesn't if you only listen to AC/DC. Now Candiria, that's a different story.

If you want some really good sounding and not so hard technical stuff, check Quo Vadis (Canadian one). lots of polyrithms, odd time signatures, fills and variations.

No idea Bones98, I never even heard of a Decrepit Birth show before. Hopefully soon, when Tim Yeung and Derek Boyer aren't busy (both are in Vital Remains, and Derek is in Suffocation now).

Holy fuck. I heard it before on their Festival of Death album but watching it is even crazier.
Anyway, I have a vague idea of the technique (returning the stick very fast with your three last fingers?) but how does he keep the tension and the solid grip? Any explanation from anyone?...

any origin off of Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas
of course anything Flo does
Decrepit Birth w/ Tim Yeung
Pete Sandoval from Morbid Angel
Vital Remains
Vehemence
I dont really consider anything from Pantera to be technical, its more slow hard hitting rock beats

Have you actually listened to anything Richard did besides Death or Iced Earth? Listen to Burning Inside. Vital Remains' drummer is fast as hell, but Christy is a far better drummer and there's no doubt that he could play that.
Albums and drummers to check out if you're interested in technical metal drumming:
Death - "The Sound of Perseverance" (Richard Christy)
Death - "Symbolic" (Gene Hoglan)
Death - "Individual Thought Patterns" (Gene Hoglan)
Death - "Human" (Sean Reinert)
Cynic - "Focus" (Sean Reinert)
Misery Index - "Overthrow EP" (Kevin Talley)
Dying Fetus - "Destroy the Opposition" (Kevin Talley)
Spiral Architect - "A Sceptic's Universe" (Aesgir Mickelson)
Origin - "Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas" (John Longstreth)
That's a good start.

I agree with you, Chris from LOG is fucking brutal. Who cares is anyone else does or does not like them. I think someone else had mention Neil Peart as well, most likely he will never be outdone.

Dillinger Escape Plan. Takes technical & sodomises it loudly.
Iniquity are also all over the shop. Don't even know if they're still around, but I believe they may be Danish. Sounds a little like early Napalm Death. You'll pop a vertebrae getting this shit right.
