I'll give you three to start with

Exodus - from the other thread, an old thrash band that released multitudinous good shit.

Metal Church - neglected when they played, and eventually broke up. Now in serious obscurity.

Ram-Zet - weird ass new-age metal band that no-one seems to have heard of regardless of their ability to kick all kinds of ass.

(If someone says "Slayer" or something similar in this thread, I will spearhead a campaign to have you banned for being a monumental fuckweasel.)

COC - A little more of a modern classic, at least sort of modern. Definately neglected though.

Aside from the references in the thread that I think gave you the idea for this one, I haven't heard of any of them...how old are they?

COC and Anthrax and Exodus are all right. So is Acid Bath. They have been sadly neglected. Though barely known even before breaking up, they have had a huge influence in the Nola scene and are definitely one of the few truly unique bands I've heard.

Also, this one band from San Francisco. I think they're gay; they wear leather and I'm pretty sure they like Priest. Their name's an anagram or something, something about Satan Laughing blah blah blah. I cant remember.

Im glad to see that i got some EXODUS fans to come out of the wood work.

Of course S.O.D. is one of the most if not the most underrated and under apprecieated metal band. They (alond with D.R.I.) spearheaded the metal/hardcore punk fusion of the mid 80's that is responsible for influencing the speed metal music of today.

D.R.I. might even be more of an unknown they did the same as S.O.D. except they came from the hardcore scene and crossed over to metal where S.O.D. came from the metal side and crossed over to hardcore

Most of you old skoolers will know waht these bands are about, but this is mainly for the new skoolers. I listen to and apprecieate music from all eras, and it is important to see where the music came from and how it influenced and progressed into the music of today. wre here to learn from each other and expand our metal horizions, I have been reading alot of the old threads and see alot of peole talking shit about someone else because the band they like is too old or too new for them to appreciate. take time to listen and open your minds. That's my public service announcement for today.

well, i dont listen to any really classic bands (except iron maiden, and if you consider it, megadeth), however, some underatted ones would be:

...And Oceans- maybe cuz they sucked so bad early on is causing them to be less popular today.

gothic metal bands like Triatania and Sins of Thy Beloved- they are their own worst enemies at preventing popularity because they dont make good enough use of their female vocalists. there are many other things they should do, but they dont....

Dream Theater- ok, i know their popular but the fact that they havent won SEVERAL Grammys and that they are not one of the biggest bands in the world makes them VERY underatted....

A contest would necessitate me presenting something competing with you. I'm just saying that, just because people dont love them as much as you do does not mean they've been neglected. How many drummer magazines has Portnoy been on the cover of? I know people who dont know ANY metal except maybe Metallica who know Dream Theater. That's appreciated enough. They're not supposed to be Led Zeppelin.

Same goes for Iron Maiden. They've been neglected a bit, but it's not like people dont know them. Because of Sum 41, nearly everyone does. Just because they're not as big as they once were doesnt mean they've been neglected. Like sane said, this isnt for bands like Slayer. Leave them all out of it. This is for bands that dont get appreciated enough at all, not who dont get appreciated as much as you appreciate them.

What does Iron Maiden have to do with Sum 41?

They've got an opening slot on the Maiden tour.

"Maiden and Priest were the Gods that we praised" is a lyric from that popular song of theirs, and they had several short songs which were obviously jocular tributes to Iron Maiden. Plus, when they were on MTV, they kept talking about Iron Maiden, and one said something like "This is the prized piece of my house" when talking about an Iron Maiden anthology in a plastic Eddie's head. How do I know this? Because sometimes I'm at places where I dont have a choice about what's on TV, and I notice nearly everything, especially if it's Maiden in a place I'm not expecting it.

That said: when sane said that you cant say Slayer, that implied that purely classic bands need not be included. Slayer are classic, but not neglected. Just because he didnt specifically mention Iron Maiden does not mean it is not included in the Slayer clause. Us some cognition, hombre.

I have to back the PST up here. Neglected and Classic, is alot different than saying Neglected or Classic. Neglected and Classic go hand in hand.

After Forever without a doubt is neglected, they are a goth metal band, but their female vocalist is (almost) comparable to Tarja Turunen

Plus, unlike the mistake of many goth bands, AF has very few growls, its mostly female singing..........

its hard to believe their cds are not even availible in the U.S., i had to import it....

Anal Cunt was oddly neglected. If i went to a local club and sang some of their lyrics, i would be on the local news that night...... Within a month, i'd be known by a lot of people......

about After Forever, seen them about 4 times in holland, I don't like them to much, I forgot where they came from... heh...

Pestilencce was one of the early death metal bands and experimented with more complex death and speed metal writing.. and then on "Spheres" they tried some jazz and stuff and people hated it..

My Bloody Valentine is kinda wierd but they were really innovative.. kinda pop rock with wierd effects and they get wierd sounds with their guitars.. some sounds like Smashing Pumpkins
