In your opinion, what are the top 5 bands with the best lyrics?
I just wanted to see where yall were at on the lyrical tip. everyone has threads on the best riffs or solos I want to know what you look for in lyrics, because to me, they are almost equally important. Mine are (in order this time):
1. Metallica
2. Anthrax
2. Megadeth
could'nt put one above the other
4. Exodus (nobody i've seen on ths site gives them any respect)
5. Black Sabboth/Ozzy (cuz they set the standard for all that came after them)

Exodus rules, and they're sort of an unspoken classic on these boards like so many other greats.

Bear in mind that Exodus released discs before a lot of the people here were born. I'm sure they don't know that many old thrash bands. Wish we had more 25-35 yr members.
Lyrics are a weird thing. The only thing I'm sure about them is in a vocally driven band they're extremely fucking important.
I'll give you 7:
Opeth - gothic poetry
Strapping Young Lad - Devin Townsend seriously pissed off
Behemoth - use automatic writing, genuinely Satanic
Testament - classic thrash
Dream Theater - everything
Misery Index - corrosive and *very* well crafted to the music
Skid Row - classic dirtball hard rock 'fuck you'
Honourable mention to Propaghandi, as they're punk and are full of crazy pinko types

1. Anal Cunt- Picnic of Love has many heart-felt ballads, and their other stuff, i have read over more than any other band's lyrics
2. Theatre of Tragedy- old stuff is great, new stuff is total "baby" filled garbage, plus the newer stuff has the gayest song topics, such as: recording music (musique), music on the radio (radio) etc.
3. Type O Negative
4. Nightwish- Tuomas is a good depressing lyricist.........
5. Tie: Anathema and Opeth (and I dont even like Opeth)
