Awesome Death tribute cd in the works...
Former DEATH/TESTAMENT guitarist James Murphy, ex-MALEVOLENT CREATION/SUFFOCATION drummer Dave Culross, ex-MALEVOLENT CREATION vocalist Brett Hoffmann and CKY guitarist Deron Miller are teaming up to record a DEATH tribute CD to benefit Murphy and the family of late DEATH frontman Chuck Schuldiner. A bassist is still being sought for the project, which may surface through the Nuclear Blast label. No further information is available at this time.
This should be interesting!

I read this earlier today, it sounds ok. The only 2 I can agree on here is Culross and Murphy. As for Hoffman and Miller, well, in my own opinion Hoffman has been pretty shitty for a long time now and I haven't heard Miller. Chuck deserves better than Hoffman.
Why the hell don't they just ask Steve Digiorgio if he'll play bass? Seems logical to me.

I'm confident that Miller would do great but I agree with you that they could have done better than Hoffman, but hopefully he will clean up for this.. who knows though it might turn out really cool with him.

What?! Why would they put deron miller im thier, ive heard both the cky cds and he dosent seem to show great guitarmanship. I personally dont think its a good idea. I think that Death should be left alone and no one should remake a hole albums worth of songs of his, it just dosent really seem right. I think Chuck is one of the best musicians ever there, his stuff is beautiful, power, and technical. But its Chuck's music and a bunch of guys re-doing it woundent give the true feeling that Death can give some one, it will just be something to listen to as backround music. It wont be as touching becasue you know that it isnt Chuck's own creatiful mind, hands, and voice behind it.

I couldn't agree more. I might change my mind if they drop Miller and Hoffman from the gig, and give the record away free. Money made off of this, is made of off Chuck's death.

Well CKy doesn't play the kind of music that needs crazy technical riffs... But listen to his old band Foreign Objects for a better look on his skill.. he's been playing for a long time and all his inspiration is from playing death metal songs because he is a huge fan of death metal.. so I'm sure he can do it but we'll see.

Former DEATH/TESTAMENT guitarist James Murphy, ex-MALEVOLENT CREATION/SUFFOCATION drummer Dave Culross, ex-MALEVOLENT CREATION vocalist Brett Hoffmann and CKY guitarist Deron Miller are going ahead with their previously announced plans to record a DEATH tribute CD to benefit Murphy and the family of late DEATH frontman Chuck Schuldiner. "James Murphy got the OK from [Chuck's sister] Bethann Schuldiner to proceed, as we did not want to do this unless we had her blessing and permission," Miller told BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "James has solidified Dave Culross on drums, Brett Hoffmann on vocals, me and James on guitars, but still no bass player. [DEATH/CONTROL DENIED bassist] Steve DiGiorgio declined to participate. I would also like to get some other guests from other bands who are DEATH fans to contribute tracks as well. I am also awaiting word from James on a label that will be releasing it. Recording will most likely begin sometime this summer."

With lack of news, i was hoping this wasn't going happen. This is just like the releasing of Curt Kobain's journal. I personally don't like Curt but I think its said that Courtny would expose his personal life. Like you said slayme - there making money off his death. Chuck is probally turning in his grave right now.

I disagree. I know Deron Miller is a HUGE fan of Death and even sold one of his guitars on ebay and gave the money to help Chuck when he was in the hospital.

I don't doubt that Clad, but the fact is that a portion of that money is going to the label. So, you ask me why I won't purchase this "tribute"?
1. Chuck's not on the record. I know it's a tribute, but it needs to be said.
2. Death is sacred. I think alot of metal fans feel this way, this just makes it feel dirty
3. I also don't want the money going to Chuck's family either, how the fuck do I know what they were like? I like Death, I know dick about Chuck's fuckin mom and sister.
4. Let Chuck rest. I have all of Death's albums, I don't need some people half assing his brilliant music.

If it sounds good i'll buy it.I wanna hear how Dave Culross will play the songs. Besides the money will be used for Chuck's and James' medical bill.

I definitly respect that some of you won't buy this cd. I'm mostly just going to buy it to hear Miller play some death metal and I think these guys can make some interesting covers.

this so wrong
chuck wrote beautiful/brutal songs. He inspires people everyday even though he is no longer with us. It is wrong to redo his songs, he just needs to be respected above that. No-one needs to hear a recreation that will stain his art. Who the hell is deron miller to do this anyways? CKY isn't that some Nu-Metal band?

People are going to be doing Death covers for eons, so I don't see why anyone would get bent out of shape over this if it's to help his family with the medical bills which were undoubtedly in the hundreds of thousands. I'd buy it just for that reason, even though I know that no one could play his songs like he can. I think that's a pretty noble thing his friends are doing. The record label on the other hand... yeah everyone knows about those goons.
How likely is it that this will ever be released though. Going on four years later?

Haha, damn this is old. I typed like a fucking toddler 5 years ago..
I'm not opposed to the idea, but I still wouldn't buy it. If I were to donate money to Chuck's family I wouldn't wait for a tribute album to come out (especially when I have no idea what % goes to Chuck's family). Going to a "good cause" or not, I don't care for an entire album of covers.

Amen, you fuckin' said it man. Let him and his music rest...he wrote it, he recorded it, and nobody can do it better, so I'm against this too.
R.I.P. Chuck We don't need a stupid tribute album to show us how great you were, you'll be remembered by true, loyal metal fans forever.
