RPGs are sooooo fucking boring. Video games should be quick distractions and a way to kill time with good friends. RPGs aren't even entertainment anymore; they're a fucking lifestyle. I know I'm alone here, but they're just too time demanding for my taste.

I think the only good RPG I ever played was Quest For Glory V.
old 5ko0l PC games are where it's at.

I agree. Games these days are becoming more like part time jobs. Fucking mining for minerals in an enchanted forest for 6 months to level up to Supreme Elf. Fuck sake. I liked S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but the RPG side of it was heavily watered down when compared to the likes of World of Warcraft and Oblivion. The exclusion of experience points/levels is probably a major factor.
It's worse than that, though. Other game genres are suffering directly because 95% of the world's gaming community is playing RPGs/MMORPGs. Classic, time-tested genres are receiving less and less funding as a result of the shift in the market, and I'll be lucky if there's one game every 6 months I'm actually looking forward to. I mean, how many different ways can the RPG genre be implemented?? Every game is virtually the same at its core, they just tend to look a little different.

God, yes. I still mostly play video games from when I was kid. Why? The early-late 90's was the golden age of 2D platforms and fighters. Capcom and SNK occasionally still pop out a good 2D fighter, but the last great platform game I played was Yoshi's Island for SNES.
The only new games I really enjoy are sports and pro wrestling games. Even with those, I usually stick with exhibition games/matches instead of going into season/storyline modes. The main exceptions are the MVP Baseball games; season mode rules in those.

my xbox has 300 SNES games, 3,000 NES games and 50 N64 games saved to its hard drive. that pretty much sums up my game-play for the past year.

Is anyone here a fan of RTS (real time stratagy) games as much as I am? I've been playing warcraft 3 for about 5 years now and I'm not sick of it, before that I would play a ton of Age of the Empires.
Command & Conquer was also fun.

I hate RTS games more than any other. There's just something about them that makes me want to shit glass. I tried - really tried - to get into Command & Conquer, World at War and a stack of similar games for the old Amiga system, but it was futile. My brothers love those games, but playing them felt too much like a chore for me.
If you can recommend an RTS that you think will convert me I'll definitely give it a go

I'm in the same boat. I've tried but I just can't enjoy RTS. I can't even see the appeal of those games.

If you are a noob then yes, these games will be boring. All noobs do is sit and mass units, once you get more advanced a lot of other stuff comes into play and the game gets really intense.

Haha so those are the choices? Either we're noobs who just don't get it, or we should enjoy RTS games on several levels?
I prefer games which are more "hands on", if you know what I mean. For instance, I'd rather be a soldier than a commander who controls a platoon of soldiers from headquarters. I suppose it says something about the psychological make-up of the gamer; some people are higher logic/lower emotion, some are more interested in storylines, some are just interested in general shooting and driving, etc. My not liking RTS games isn't because I think the games are shit per se, it's just that they don't appeal to my particular tastes.

Probably, if not definitely, true haha. Incidentally, what would you say is the best or one of the best RTS games? I still feel like I want to get into these games, because it almost feels like I'm missing out on something that many people love.

Honestly, I could never get into C&C, Warcraft, or any of those. I think you should check out Starcraft as its the only RTS I'm really into and its fucking awesome. I'll post some videos of game play later when I get the chance.

I have to agree with Darko, starcraft is the RTS to play. I suck at it so I don't play it much, but the thing is there are other game modes you can play other than classic 1v1, 2v2, etc. An example would be tower defense, its where you have to build towers to kill hordes of enemies running through the gates of hell and shit like that.

haha, a bunch of romantics on this board.
My Valentine's evening was a good time..had to have a break though to see who was winning the Pittsburgh/Toronto game.
Having been a childhood friend of Sidney Crosby(no shit), I lulz when the Penguins lose.

They do a little bit, but I don't follow it, hence my inclusion of "hobbies" as one of the things my evening was lacking haha. Belfast actually has a team, "The Belfast Giants". The reason you've never heard of them is that they're "The Belfast Giants".

No, actually I hate the Leafs. I just enjoy watching Pittsburgh lose.
I'm a Senators fan...at least I was two years ago.
Edit - lol @ The Belfast Giants. Hockey is religion here man. It's even on our money for fucks sake..I always enjoy pointing this out. haha.

I never thought anything strange of having hockey on the money here. I guess I've just been used to it all along.
Also be sure to check out the big beaver on our nickel

They should make that beaver a bit more heroic and masculine to compete with America... why just look at the eagle on our quarters

Just Google American Silver Dollar, damnit.

Hahaha I remember when the Northern Bank was robbed by the IRA in Belfast a few years back this image started floating around the net:
http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/86...ernbank1on1.jpg
It's Gerry Adams (IRA man-turned politician who definitely does NOT still have ties to the IRA so don't even mention that if you like having full use of your kneecaps) on a Northern Bank Ł10 note, in case you didn't know

The link works if you copy and paste it rather than click it from within the forum. Not sure what's happening there, must be some sort of half-assed hotlink protection or the like.
I love how feminists (I'm assuming that's what the coin is about!) apparently think the Illuminati are after them, too. They have their fingers in so many pies!

I'm pretty sure I'm going to buy Fallout 3 (PC) tomorrow. All this talk about it on here led me to read some reviews and watch a couple trailers and it looks like it might be pretty fun. How long does it take to beat the game?

If you ignore most that there is to do, probably 30 hours? am I right, fellow gamers?
I'm guessing that I'll have spent about 40+ hours on it once beaten, but that's a really rough estimate. You can't play after you beat it, so why would you bother finishing it, anyway? The main thing that matters is that it's totally worth it.
Buy Fallout 3 now.

If you can find a recording of Ritchie Havens doing "Follow The Drinking Gourd" it's good, too.
My husband was at the original Woodstock. He told his mom he was going camping with his friends, but he didn't say where.

Huh, I checked all my Richie Havens records and I can't find it. Is it on any of his LPs?

If you just do the main quest line you can probably finish it in under 20 hours. But you shouldn't, since unlike Fallout 2 and most of the Elder Scrolls games, once you beat the main quest line the game is over. But the main quest line is actually pretty goddamn short. The ending is also retarded, so that's another good reason to put it off. And something of a letdown, if you're used to the detailed, location-by-location endings from the other Fallout games. I guess the DLC aims to fix some of that.

You played it, Richie? How'd you like it?
It sounds like from what you guys are saying is that, if you intend to really play all of the game (I'm getting the impression there are a lot of 'side quests') its got some good substance. However, I don't like the fact that when its done its done.
Is there multiplayer?

Nah. Don't have time to play them yet. I've played a few of the SMT games and overall they are great. A DS SMT game is coming out this year(already out in Japan).
Only console game I'm playing is Disgaea 2 and DDR if you count that.
Poke'mon Diamond is taking all my time.

I've been sucked into Tales of Phantasia. I've been playing it through a GBA emulator and so far all I have left is leveling up to 99 for each character. It's not necessary, but it's what I do whenever I play a RPG.

This is the type of game where it would be hard to incorporate a multiplayer into the gameplay, and the multiplayer would take away from the amazingness of the single player. If there were ever a Fallout multiplayer, I'm guessing that it would have to be entirely separate from the franchise.

I liked it. It's pretty lame that beating the main quest line is the end of the game (and the ending itself is really lame), but the DLC coming out soon should fix that, and I don't think it's possible to do everything in one play through, so it's not as bad as it could be. It's not as wide open as other Fallout games, but your in-game decisions matter more than they do in Oblivion, it's one of very few karma meter games where being evil doesn't make you feel absolutely retarded, and it's not on the Infinity engine in all of its 1999 glory, so it's pretty good.
And yeah, multiplayer would probably mess it up if it wasn't designed as a completely separate thing. Since the first DLC seems to be a recreation of the setting's first power armor battle it might make sense to include it there if it's ever going to be included, but I think Bethesda just makes games for people to sit around alone at home and not communicate with real people. Because, if you could do that, what would be the point of their Radiant AI?

I personally think so....but I've been trying to learn violin lately, and the book I use talks about it not being so....kinda dumb. I think it's possible for anyone to become good at something...but I think Genetics can play a role in how quickly they learn....

It may seem long, but it's the shortest accurate answer you're going to find. If you're not a pussy, you'll finish it. Let me know how it goes.

Don't parents with brown eyes have blue eyed children sometimes? Don't ugly parents have good looking children? Good looking parents, ugly children?
First there's the issue of dominant and recessive genes (see blue eyes). Then theres the matter of gene expression... what can cause an otherwise dormant gene to express itself? Was this gene carried, but never expressed, by the parents? Then there's the matter of genetic mutation, which is how you get different genes in the first place.

I think I got shot there a long time ago and forgot. I used a toothpick.
I got to see local legend Jag Panzer last night. I don't know if any one here has heard of them, but they are pretty good and play shows internationally.

I think what it comes down to is how your parents care for you...put a guitar in a kids hands at 3 teach him how to use it and wala he will be able to play awesome as hell by 10-12. I've seen it happen a few times around here. Just boils down to how you take care of them and what the hell you teach them at an early age which i guess all boils down too how the parent was raised. Ever notice if the parents are complete retards that the kid is, he didn't get shit taught to him at home that's why.
I may be wrong but from what I've seen all that is the case
