The Gathering and Lacuna Coil
i had high hopes for both these bands so i bought there newest releases, If_Then_Else, and Comalies. They really are both very pop. Hell, i dont even know if that Gathering album can be considered metal.
is their older stuff any better?

yeah older Gathering is better ...my friend got their first cd (forgot the name) and compared to their latest is pretty good

is it just me, or do those 2 bands sound exactly the same? somehow, the vocals are identical, the theme is the same and so is the music.

they are compared quite a bit. the only difference really is that LC has a male singer too ( although he doesn't have a very big part). LC is usually said to copy the Gathering.
its too pop for me......... maybe I'll check out some of the older stuff..........
the gathering doesn't even seem to use a distorted guitar in many of the new songs..........

What I've head of The Gathering was terrible! The girl sung like a dying cat!!
Lacuna Coils latest was too pop for my taste, but they are still good. Much better than The Gathering...

if you're going to get any album of the gathering, I 'd suggest 'Mandyloin'. by far their best.
I'm too big a fan of Lacuna Coil not too like 'em. too poppy? nah, I disagree. it's just gothic rock. remember that. Lacuna Coil has never really been metal, but always ROCK; that's bound to be softer stuff than gothic metal.

Has anyone ever listened to Otep? I think they have a Female Vocalist too, but there music is more metal.
I dont know really, I cant remember what they sound like, I listening to there album in HMV ages ago.

I hate Otep, one there music, but two it sounds to close to Opeth and are often mistaken. Lucuna Coil is on tour with Opeth though. I havent heard her yet but shes hot.

Comalies is rock. How is "Swamped" at all gothic?
the songs have a basic pop structure too.
intro-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-really short interlude (like 1 riff played 4 times)-chorus

I havenīt hear the last of L.C., but they have been always rock, not metal, just good rock. Now , about The Gathering, i agree that MANDYLION is a very good album, but "If then else" not, i think is just "mediocre". Any way , if you are looking for a good gothic-metal-female sing-band , you must listen to TRISTANIA, that is a great band, its have everything that you look in a band.

ive got "World of Glass" by tristania. it is ok at best. i heard their album "Beyond the Veil" is their best, so i may get it.............

All I have to say is, Lacuna Coil rules! I love their cd Comalies........I can't wait for them to tour the states in the spring.

I got a Dismal Euphony album (Python Zero). It kicks ass. Its like a much heavier Lacuna Coil.

abso-fucking-lutely. tot bad though that The Gathering never made an album more like 'Mandylion'. anyway, Lullacry is also pretty good. sounds a lot like Lacuna Coil.
