Ohm Question

Hey i was just wondering

can you run a 150W @ 4 ohms head into a 150W @8 ohms cabinet without any risk??

That wouldn't be a good idea because 8ohms is twice as much resistance as 4ohms and it could blow up your amps transformer.

If you run two 8 ohm cabinets in parallel, that will equal 4 ohms.

This really all depends on the amp. Running an 8ohm cabinet into the 4ohm jack on an amplifier is what is referred to as a "safe mismatch" on a tube head. It wont cause any damage unless you really crank the amp for a long period of time. Saying that the Head is "150 watts @ 4 ohms" simply means that that is how much power it will put out at that impedence. A Solid State bass or guitar head that can run 4ohms will definitely be able to run 8ohms, it will just put out less power. You just need to make sure that you are plugged into the proper speaker jack on the Head.

So basically, we would need to know what kind of head this kid is talking about first.
