fast fuckin solos
ive had about as much as i can take !!!!
every time i watch guitarists soloing it pisses me off
how the fuck do you play so fast its one of my goals to play fast solos
but it seems pretty bastard impossible
what tips can you give me that will speed up my playing

Man, I get real sweaty after I wack my dong. Yeah, cause I headbang while I do, and I can't really "Jump" (haha ) like VanHalen in a dorm room, so I just walk back and forth....haha a couple days ago I was jumping up and down on my bed, with my pants down and my roommate came in when I wasn't looking, hahaha.

Everyone asks this. Go out and buy a metronome. Usually 15 - 20$. Its one of those things that just sits there and goes "beep beep beep beep". But its speed in a box. Learn three major modes. Like the sticys on the guitar forum "Modes and sweep scales". Learn 3 at least, like the back of your hand. Then set the metronome at about...30 - 40 beats per minute (bpm). Its really slow but you need to learn now to keep up with the rythm and hear if youve mest up. Then you do 2 notes per beep. So it should look like this -
------3---------5--------7------
===beep============beep
thats the first 3 notes of the iolian scale. So on the 3 there is a beep, and the 7 there is a beep and you hit the 5 in between beeps. All the modes have a 3 note per chord. Get it? Learn iolian first and try it, and if you get it. Learn aelion and phygian.

Also if you dont want to buy one. Go to wholenote.com and there is a online metronome thats kinda cool. ITs at the bottom left and it look like a triangle with a line threw it. And use the 3 scales all over, do them backwords and forwards and muted.

dont know if its a "true" website...but it doesnt work
pracice! but what!
learn slow solo to start, learn almost all scales (even major and weird shit)
improvise in thoses scales. record a backing track, play over it. or play along a cd
then you'll start to get faster  and move into more technical/hard solos

Playing Faster
Play light. By this I mean, when you press down on the frets, only put as much presure needed to get the sound. Large/medium frets could help(even though, I know some of you will look down on it.). This way, it's easier to get the sound. Anticipate the chord changes or the next note, so you'll be ready for it and know where to put your fingers at. Of course you can also practice and buy things... it's all good.

the only way to learn how to play fast is to practice your balls off! Also, take on more challenging techniques and keep pushing your limits until you can shred effortlessly.
Oh, and Speed is all in the picking hand.

when i first started with solos i would take different modes of Major and Minor scales and just fuck around with em all fast and keep trying new things til i get things that sounded like good solos, i'm still not teh best soloist but i haven't played for a very long time and for how long i've been playing i think it's safe to say i'm a fast learning and just practice a hell of alot

wholenote metronome is really helpfull but i had to just repeat the in tro to sweet child o' mine cause i dont now the three scales ur on about
i managed to get up to 190 tempo considering ive been playing for three years is this good or bad

Actually i worship Zakk...hes the best ever! I have noticed on his solos he loks to be picking all his stuff but what? ALAS! He is finger tapping half of them and picking the other half....also try practicing man...i was a rythem guitarist for 4 years in my band cause i couldnt solo...one day i took my guitar and practiced over and over on one simple solo my friend made up for me and practiced 3 hours a day until i got it down. in other words you cant buy good old speed solos!

i read somewhere that he used to practice on the sidewalk outside his home and get tons of money, not because he wanted it, but just because people were just paying him for practicing. but im not sure, I'm sure he practiced a whole hell of a lot, cause he's damned good, im working on "Far Beyond The Sun" and "Trilogy Suite Op.5" right now.

he calls it chicken picking, it helps when your skipping strings because your fingers are already near there. i think he gives a lesson on it in the current issue of soem guitar magazine |
