How can anyone possible get any enjoyment from this music? There are tons of cool slam bands. but too many of them are coming out these days. The Los Angeles DM scene is cluttered up with them. But I'll listen to them as long as the music is well produced, heavy, and doesn't sound close to being deathcore.

Slam et cetere is not at all creative. Music = creativity, unfortunately. More like a kind of testosterone-fuelled anger contest.

They should build a kind of natural reserve spot for (un)musicians of this kind so they can roam free and take out their anger on rabbits, squirrels and baby deer.

Shame we aren't giving them power, so mic-cupping and badly EQ-ed guitars are out of the question.

Check out this band, they're called Feeding The Hybrid. Some pretty cool death/grind that kinda sounds like a mix of Saprogenic, Devourment, and Napalm Death. They seem to have a lot of potential.

Dude, comparing enmity to Devourment is absolutely retarded. Enmity is the most one dimensional band I have ever heard, and I listen to Foetopsy and Inhuman Dissiliency (another awesome slam band to check out). I like slam because it takes some of the best parts of death metal, such as the guttural vocals, and chunky sections, and mixes it well with the chaotic blasting of grind. If you can't appreciate Butcher the Weak or Molesting The Decaptitated, you will never appreciate slam.

EDIT: That is, unless you listen to all the dying fetus faggot ripoffs.

Yes. Acting like an elitist doucher because it's not old thrash, ealy 90's death metal or super technical is just stupid. All types of death metal have something to bring to the table, and you don't have to knock down Devourment and other awesome bands just because you don't like it. I personally love early-mid 90's death metal the most, but as far as new shit thats coming out, slam bands have encompassed what death metal should be way better than any deeds of flesh or decapitated album.

They're one in the same. Most slam riffs are written with the intent of being extremely heavy and groovy. Abysmal Torments "Flayed, Dismembered, and Feasted Upon" springs to mind.

You're right, early Gorguts has plenty of groove, and I love Considered Dead and Erosion, but it seems to me that slam death metal just has alot more to it than the over the top technical shit now. Yes, I still listen to spawn of possession and Origin every so often, but you won't see that playing as often on my computer as Butcher The Weak or Digested Flesh. I used to be all about playing shit as fast possible and how insane the band could make their harmonies, but now, its much more about the brutality, and slam has that in spades compared to tech/prog death metal.

You guys might laugh, but since you brought up Meshuggah, a lot of the riffs on Organic Hallucinosis sort of remind me of that style. The complexity isn't in where the riff takes you, but the unorthordox way in which the riff is performed; strange time signatures, uncommon palm muting patterns, etc.

I quite like Devourment, but I wouldn't describe slam death metal as "groovy" in any sense of the word. Whenever I hear the term "groovy death metal" I automatically think of "old school death metal". But that's just me.

And Meshuggah are the greatest "groovy" band around.

Check out Clitorture's S/T full length. Not really recommended for everybody, but give them a try.

Skinless' Progression Towards Evil has tons of groove.

Copremesis "Muay Thai Ladybois" has some pretty cool groove sections in their music along with insane, gutturals vocals and tons wacky n' crazy stuff.

Crimson Thorn's music also has alot of groove. If you're into bands like Obituary and Suffocation, give these mofos a try. But beware; these guys are a christian death metal band, but I think they kick ass and their vocalist is one of the sickest mofos I've ever heard (ex. Meaningless, 0:29).

Disconformity is also another great Japanese DM band along with Vomit Remnants and Woundeep.

Goratory has some pretty cool breakdowns and groove parts. Definitely recommend Orgasm Induced Diarrhea

Happy Face is another cool band. They play a mix of grind, death metal, and have some hints of Meshuggah in their music. Check out their album titled Tah!!!

Soils of Fate also have tons of groove.
