Alternate Picking Exercises
As I said in the other thread heres the alternate picking exercises Ive being doing.
The first one is attached. Basically its a chromatic pattern workout for all four fingers, but uses every possible finger combination pattern available starting on each finger.
Ive only tabbed all the possibilities for beginning on fingers 1 and 2 because on the way back up in those patterns youll be playing the reverse only 1 fret higher.
Example - if yer goin down with a -1-2-3-4- pattern you are coming up in 1 -4-3-2-1 pattern only 1 fret higher.
Remember to take this exercise up and back down the fret board 1 fret at a time (ive only done the first down and up but you should be able to continue it yerself)
if you go down on fret one you come up in position 2 down on position 3 up in position 4 etc....... Position 1 = first finger on first fret Position 2 = first finger on 2nd fret etc..........
To get all these patterns up to high speeds (ideally 16ths at 160bpm) will take a long time, bu after youve mastered this you will have no weak spots and problems picking any lick starting on any fret.
Oh and invest in a metronome for building up speeds.
Any questions etc. just ask.

Heres Part 2
Advanced Chromatic Picking (or something like that.)
The first 6 bars are double 4s that I stole off Mick Thompson from Slipknot, basically the idea is pick the -1-2-3-4 using fingers 1,2,3,4 then jump yer hand up the neck to play the -5-6-7-8 using fingers 1,2,3,4, this is really hard to keep in perfect time especially at high speeds
Bars 8-11 are where it starts to get hard and should only be attempted if you can do the entire last lesson comfortably at a decent pace. Its basically a 1-2-3-4- pattern that has you constantly picking different strings and crossing, really good for getting your right hand in sync with your left and ifou can play this at speeds of over 160bpm ya should be a pro.
Bars 13-16 are string skipping on the same chromatic pattern, and the whole point in this is so you dont lose timing hopping across the strings and every note is on the button this is the kinda thing I realy cant do cleanly passed 120bpm.
18-22 is picking across the strings for the first hrase and sting skipping on every note for the second part, both use the same shape though, and again 16ths at 120 is pretty decent for this kinda thing.
The last part is using chromatics in a lead and is taken from John Petruccis little run before the chorus in Pull Me under Petrucci picks this in 32nds at 105bpm but 16ths at 160 is plenty for now.
All these again should be practised slow and brought up to speed.
BTW Is anyone using these or am I wasting my time.
If Im not next piece is on major and natural minor scales/patterns for flying round the fretboard.

I had no internet for ages and genuinely forgot about this place when I got it back until the guy emailed me. I always like this site too. How I could forget a site called metaltabs.com is beyond me but there you go.
