Am I the only soul enjoying this more than Focus?

I enjoy it about the same as Focus. Both are perfect high albums.

I've heard it's real good. I've never really listened to Cynic before though, so i'm not sure what to expect

This album is amazing. Paul's clean vocals are weird at first - particularly when one is accustomed to the vocoded "robot" vocals - but I can't imagine the album without them now.

I'm going to give the album a shot when it comes out. I wasn't a fan of the tracks they put out over the summer, but everyone seems to like this. Focus was definitely a great album.

I've only listened to it a few times and haven't totally absorbed it yet, but its all pretty good, even though I find some moments in the album a little sleepy. It certainly doesn't grip me like Focus does, but Paul's vocals sound really good!

Are there any growls on the album at all?

Yeah, Tymon handles the growls but they're usually employed in support of Paul's clean vocals rather than as an explicit vocal line. Paul occasionaly uses the vocoder (on Evolutionary Sleeper for one), but he predominantly uses clean vocals.
I have to say that this album is one of the most ethereal albums I've heard in ages. If anybody is yet to hear it, it's best described as a mix between Focus and the bonus tracks on the deluxe edition of that album. Which was to be expected if anything.

too much stop-start. im intending to write a formal review for this album in a bit to get my thoughts together on it, but i think the stop start dynamics really hurts the album.
yes paul, we know you like pat metheny.

This has got to be one, if not my favorite release this year. And I've only heard Focus a couple times too (I like Traced better).
