Using The Same Amp...??

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience in a two-guitarist band where both guitarists use the same amp?? I think it should be fine, but our bass player is jumping up and down about how it is a shit idea the both of us having the same sound. I dont see how it would be a bad thing, it will certainly eliminate the idea of "conflicting tone". And on top of that, if I were to buy something different, it wouldn't be too hard to dial it to sound like the other...

Any thoughts??

I don't know where did he hear two different guitar sounds, and what he wants you to accomplish by that, but i think that in the most of the bands guitarists use same amp while recording (and even same guitar) to get more homogeneous sound => more clear sound. For example listen to a newer Slayer albums, you can clearly hear that Hanneman's guitar sound(left speaker) = King's guitar sound(right speaker).

A lot depends on how different other parts of your rigs are.

My main amp is an FJA modded 5150II. My other guitarist has a stock 5150. And for a time I was using a stock 5150 aswell. So of course there are similarities. But once you consider differences in our settings, the differences in our guitars(Hotrail loaded tele vs. Gibson SG Standard) and the differences in our cabs/speakers(VHT Fatbottom with front loaded Eminence P50E's vs. Marshall 1960A with rear loaded Celestion G12T-75's) and so on... Our tones are quite different.

It's usually good to have some differences though. Right now for example. His 5150 is getting serviced. So he's been using my backup amp, which is a DSL100. Much brighter and midrange heavy amp than the 5150. It fits very well into the mix. Though, I must say I prefer his over all tone with his 5150.

Basically don't worry about it. If it sounds good. It is good.

well, I currently run a JCM2000 TSL with a bunch of pedals, and some ibanez guitars, or other guitarist is about to get a JVM410H w/a 1960a and plays either a jackson DKMG or an LTD explorer and i'm likely to sell my tsl and get the jvm as well, purley for flexibility, I figure if it sounds good, then I wont worry, I know the amp sounds great and with a couple of easy mods, it will sound even better.

I think i'll just tell my bass player where to stick it

To go slightly off topic, I played a Bogner Uberschall today and was very impressed! Anyone here had experience with one (i.e reliability etc etc)?? Price was pretty decent and wont be much more than the marshall...
