ehe, no just kidding, I liked the 'bass' sound from some hardcore bands, that's why I started after about half a year I started playing in a band and I'm still in that band, been there for like 3 years or so.

My ex-band needed a bassist. And they knew that i played guitar.
So i started to play bass. And then i realized, that i can play bass better than guitar.
And nearly every band is searching for a good bassist. I stick to it.

I picked up bass because of the sound, I love it..

I had no desire to play anything at all until I heard Geezer Butler doing Bassically and War Pigs, and I fell in love with the bass.

i started to play bass becouse i used to play violoncello, you know, classical music, i still do,and want to play something realy hard, so i chose the bass, i think 3 years ago, and now i could´n leave it, it´s the greatest

I think I started to play the bass first of all because it is big and looks pretty cool, I'm a big guy myself and whenever I pick up a guitar it feels like I'm crushing it with my hand, second of all because it sounds really cool and third of all...to many damn guitarists out there

There are alot of guitarists... well no, there are alot of people who play guitar. Im sure you could have been a very fine guitarist. I think people sometimes pickup bass for the wrong reasons. Like if you and a group of friends are making a band, sometimes people end giving the 'not so musicial talented' people bass thinking it'll be easier than guitar caz it has 'only four strings' usually resulting in a bad band caz their bassist, frankly just plain out sucks!! Its true and there're are plenty - plently of shitty guitarists too.

I started bass because I liked it more then guitar, I also play guitar sometimes but it just doesn't work for me.

I'm happy to say I'm one of those full-time bassist dudes, I guess... but my style has changed dramaticly, from metal like pantera/biohazard stuff to louder shit like immolation and co. to Hardcore and Moshcore, which I am into now.

It's weird how your style can change over the years, I hardly slap and pop anymore, hm.

I still do slap and pop, i think it adds something to my skill, and it builds up your arms real quick aswell, with the slapping..

Yeah, I only use it to play level 42 stuff and some stu hamm stuff I need to play for music school, but I don't use pops and slaps in my band.

well it figures, I don't think slapping and popping is either really metal or hardcore, I don't think a really good bassist should be a slapping machine, but hey, that's just me

My friends were starting a band and asked if I wanted to join. I had the choice between bass and guitar and I chose bass for two reasons really.
1. I cut the tip of my middle and ring fingers on my fretting hand in a lawnmower when I was younger and now the tips are pretty big, so when I play guitar, sometimes when I fret I hit two strings (and since it's a guitar they both sound really loudly since it takes no effort to hammer on a guitar)
2. I find the guitar to be such a small pathetic thing, with the pick and the strumming and such. I much prefer the bass because you put more physical effort into it, which I find, adds to the fun of playing, even though I'm a small guy.

Concerning me cutting my fingers (ha ha I was such a moron. Still am?) I'd like to tell the whole story because I find it'S rather funny. The lawnmower was caught over the border of the lawn so I went to pull it back on from the bottom. Little did I know, the blade reaches all the way to the end and when I pulled my hand back, I saw the tips of my fingers were missing. I thought I was seeing things but then the pain hit and I realised it was true. Anyway one finger tip was dangling by some skin and the other my brother put into a Ziplock bag and brought to the hospital were they sewed them back on. The nails are huge now. lol

well there are 2 reasons i picked the bass:

1. i saw and heard steve harris play bass...i wanted to play bass after i saw/heard him

2. i'm about 2m 13cm (think 7foot or something like that) tall (no i don't have neither blonde hair nor blue eyes ) so a guitar is jus..well..so small

My best friends were in a band for a month or two and their bassist was jazzy and they were a solid metal band. They disagreed and mutually decided he should leave. Then I joined as a complete bass n00b with some guitar experience. Went from there and now i would nevet touch a guitar, lower frequencies forever!

But im a bassist!, bassist's are talented at everything its the key rhythm instrument.

Yeah, we keep bands in time, without us they're nothing Some people take the ignorant approach in saying bass players are failed guitarists or not good enough to play guitar but in truth a good bassist is very talented. With my almighty four fingers i can go up and the fretboard before our guitarists have even touched their strings

I guess I could still strum something on a guitar everynow and again but i couldnt go for long without a bass urge Also I have nothing much against other instruments apart from the odd drummer joke at practice

I just recently picked up the bass. My boyfriend is a brilliant musician. He has produced two cd's completely on his own. He plays every instrument and sings on all the tracks (which he also wrote). He wanted to get a band together to play his songs and start touring. He taught me to play the bass. I thought I'd never get the hang of it, but, much to my surprise......I'm doing it! .....and I'm not doing too bad!!! The band is deathmetal. We are STOMP FORCE. Check us out!

The reason i picked up the bass is because of Cliff Burton and Tom Araya, i've been playing for about 2 years but i have a long way to go i want to be the best.

I picked up the bass because, it can be absurdly heavy. Guitar is alright, but a bass can put out a sound that makes Satan shit his pants in fear. Take Robert Turijillo, or Jason Newstead on the new Voivod, FUCKING INCREDIBLE. Cliff Burton, Steve Harris, Geezer, D.D. Verni, Steve Digorgio, and Frank Bello kept up the inspiration. I love those guys, (sniff).
