I have playing drums on and off for around 12 years and I just picked up a iron corbra double pedal.I have never played double bass,so this is all new to me.After a couple days I am getting better but I have a long way to go.Any tips from you drummers?This may sound like a dumb question but are both feet supose to play at the same speed a lot of the time?

In my opinion, you should make sure you learn how to handle the double pedals for more stuff than the usual:

First of all, I guess your practice some rhytms with your left feet instead of right...

When both of your feet can produce the same speed with same precision, then you can begin finding out some songs, and practice double basses...

Yes both feet are supposed to play in succesion. Take for example 1 measure of 16th notes on your snare. 1e+a 2e+a 3e+a 4e+a. now with your feet your doing 8th notes. Let me make a diagram.

Right Foot= RF
Left Foot= LF
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +

now at the same time youd be doing this with your left foot

Hope that helps. And for practice Check out any old MEtallica song. Or better yet screw the song and actually practice doing 16th notes with your feet while playing the snare on the down beat and the hi-hat playing every 8th note. Good Luck.

Man, not for nothing but your a little obsession with Dream Theatre is quite pathetic. Portnoy can't do that much with double bass. And your legs wont fall off, only someone of your skill level, If you want your legs to be decapitated then check out Dimmu Borgir's album "Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia", the drummers name is Nick Barker, and he leaves Portnoy in the dust as far as double bass and other things as well. Enjoy your legs with fall off within the first 30 seconds of the 2nd song.

Haha that's comedy man! But yeah I was wondering, if I wan't to just start playing double bass then what kind of double bass should I get that isn't too much money but is good, because I have a TAMA drum set and I was thinking about getting TAMA double bass pedals. What do you dudes think?

Try practicing rudiments with both feet instead of your hands.When playing a groove double bass pattern use your thighs but when you are playing super fast double bass lift your heels higher than normal and use your calf muscles.Also play a normal triplet pattern as you would with one bass drum and instead of accenting the highhat after the triplet [on the fourth note]use your second bassdrum and you have a quadruplet .Most importantly try and come up with your own stuff on the double kickers because most of the stuff out there is the same old shit.

start slow, it takes time before you have the double bass feeling. after a while, just put the top of your foot on the pedall and start sprinting, like running the 100 meters or something.

Thats a really good tip, I actually used to tie a dumbell to my left leg
to strengthen it. LOL! Why not try that?!
Or just get that 350 dollar pedal where you use one foot
but it makes a double bass trill

the tama iron cobra is a great pedal, axis pedals are really smoth but really expensive, axis's arent as "heavey sounding", my personal favorite is the dw delta series titanium 9000's those things are way nice.

Yeah dude, I wan't to get that Iron Cobra pedal, but not for a long ass time I can't because I don't have money for that right now, I got tons of other things to get. But yeah I am hopefully going to get that next summer or something when I get a job.
