Wait... so you are going to hide the amp from your "friend"? It must suck being your friend. Now that I think about the situation, she gave the amp/cab to him as a gift. It wasn't hers to give away again.

Think about the reaction when he finds out you have been sitting on his stolen amp/cab and deliberately tried to disguise it. If she is crazy enough to give you a amp and cab that isn't hers then she is crazy enough to pull it from you to... or at least tell everyone about it. Either way, someone is going to ask questions about your new amp/cab that matches the brand and model of your friends that showed up missing. Even lying about it will not save your reputation at that point. Its a seriously messed up, cut-throat situation and nothing good can come of it.

I know this might sound fucked up to some of the greedy members but have you considered giving it all back to your friend as a gift? It might piss her off but it will score some major trust points with your mates. You might lose the amp/cab but you will gain more than you think. People will remember.

No no no, I'm not really friends with the dude. Her boyfriend is one of my best friends though. He's the drummer in my band, and another band that is going nowhere... Guitar player who was using the half stack is nothing but a mouthy pretentious prick who leeches off of everyone.

Part of the deal of him getting the amp was to help out my friend with rides to see her, which he never did (even once). Everyone in my band (and all my friends for that matter) encourage me to use the amp for my use, considering he's getting almost no use out of it + the aforementioned douchebaggery. Fact of the matter is, that if I didn't take, she would be selling it. Either way he'd be losing the amp.

Me himself: You're half right; I know the guy, but I don't converse with him unless I run into him. The dude literally leeches off of everyone, just so he doesn't have to spend his own money/work at all. He's had the amp since at least January when they started playing shows. Their singer left months ago, and they've barely practiced since.

Its been sitting in a damp, humid ass basement. And anyone who leaves their guitar equipment in a space like that deserves to either lose their equipment or have it fail on them.

Normally I'd have some shred of doubt on whether or not this was the right thing to do, but I've got not a bit.

It would still be a good ideal for her to tell the guy that the deal is canceled by default and that she took the amp back and sold it ( you should give her at least $1 ). That way you legally own the amp ( you bought it and no one can take it from you ) and he can't say you stole the amp. No need to hide it from him or tell him how much you bought it for.

I do agree though that letting an amp rot in a damp basement is BS. Take good care of it.

Time to plug myself here. As for the 5150 transformer upgrade, you can click the link in my sig for more info. I don't have any before and after sound clips though. You can check Youtube and hear several other amps with the upgrades. I sell with a 20% discount so the output tranny is $200 ( $250 normally ), the power tranny is $208 ( $260 normally ), and choke is $24 ( $30 normally ). I'm a tech/dealer for Mercury Magnetics ( I use them in my personal amps ) so I could install them for you but I charge labor. It would cost about $150 to install the whole set because the stock 5150 doesn't have a choke circuit. The labor also includes inspection, cleaning, testing, burn in, and matched coupling capacitor upgrades. I can also do other modifications and upgrades ( tubes, bias, ect ) for a little more than parts cost once I have the amp open. The amp will be returned a fine tuned machine with all top quality parts and military grade solder joints. Remember, I was a nuclear electronics tech in the Navy I love working on amps and guitars. If you ever believe one thing I say then believe that upgrading your amp with quality transformers is the best thing you can ever do.

Regardless of this one instance, he is consistently a fucking over the top jackass that hardly ever contributes anything positive to the forum. Sure he says stuff thats funny now and again, but its far far too often that he detracts any positives.

The cab may need to be checked out ( mainly the speakers for rot and mold ) and overhauled like you said but that is easy so long as the plywood and joints stay intact. Check this thread for details on cab mods.

Infinity just kept on getting suspended as though it was the first or second time. For years and years. Always the same shit. While it's not perfectly consistent, it's understandable given the rules we've had and explained to you all, that he should have been banned eventually. Even if he didn't create a second name - and I wasn't here and have no idea whether or not he did - he was going to be suspended eventually. He just rubbed too many people the wrong way and didn't take care to do so while staying within the rules, which would be so much more annoying and effective.

So there you go. I don't know whether the forum's better or worse, but it didn't take a conspiracy. Or, if it did, it was one he cooperated with as fully as he could.

And an IP search goes through the entire database. Do you have any idea how long it would take to check IP addresses against each members' individually?
