kahler tremolo problems
Hi there and thx for letting me join the forum.
I reasonly got a hold of a old Hunter guitar, from around 85.
This is a kahler tremolo on it. I have no experience with tremolo at all.
After restringing it for the first time, i tryed the tremolo arm. And the guitar went way, way ,way out of tune. I retuned it,lock the nut, tryed the arm again, same thing happend. I have been doing this for 2 days now. I then took the Kahler a part, cleaned it, gave it some olie. No change. It still goes out of tune when i use the tremolo.
I have notice that, when i press the tremolo arm forward, and let it go, the bridge doesnt go all the back to the original position. And when i press the tremolo arm backward, and let it go. It doesnt go back to the original position either. I have no idea what the problem is.
Some please help me out..thx

just having the nut isn't going to help, just like a floyd rose, you've still got to set it up.......i just don't know how because I've only used a floyd rose before.

The common failure is the nut allowing the strings to slip. If you don't want the Kafler let me know Its the only trem I really like to use.

I have a brand new Kahler that does the same thing... my original floyd never goes out of tune like the Kahler does.

Are you serious? I have never had a problem with Kahlars.

I made a small metal piece, and but it between the string and the original nut.
No, change what so ever.
i have never played a tremolo, but i have notice. When i push the tremolo arm all the way forward and let it go, it goes totaly out of tune. But when push all the forward and "push" it back again, it stay in tune. Hope i made my self clear.
Is that normal behaviour?

I'm not sure I understand what you mean by pushing it back again. It should return to its starting position without help. The bearings on the cam shaft might need to be replaced if the trem doesn't travel smooth and free.

I have never used a tremolo before. But i think i use pretty much force to move the arm forward or backward.
I saw a video on youtube, testing kahler. The guy testing Kahler said that it's "feather" like, in comparison to Floyd Rose. If mine is "feather" like, you got to be a bodybuilder to use Floyd Rose.
As fare as i can feel, the cam travels smooth and free. But i do have to use force to move the arm.
