I've just put some rotosound flatwounds on my bass and well, it plays better. It's got a better tone and it's easier to do fretwork than it is with roundwounds. I was really quite surprised to notice a difference.

Better Tone? Naw Different Tone? Yes and flats are really unique sounding but i love bright bass tones not the sound flats give off but im a douchebag

I feel that flatwounds only work well on a fretless. In general, they arent very versatile strings..tapping or slapping on flats wouldnt cut through, and digging in on fingerstyle, you wouldnt get much response from the pickups because of how boomy and dull they are. But like i said great on a fretless, like the way they are normally intended.

yea its really more of a different sound...whether it sounds better is up to the individual player

Steve Harris seems to like them, and he has a fucking awesome tone.
