What song shall I learn next?
Allright, I've found a couple of threads dealing with this, but none of them could realy help me, so I'd be glad for some adivices here.
I just learned Black Sabbath's Paranoid and Iron Man (first solo only so far, but the second one shouldn't be a problem either). Now I don't know, what to learn next (besides my regular practise schedule), and would be glad, if you could name me a few songs, which are slightly more difficult. Please name only full songs, as I don't just want to play a riff from one song, the beginning of a solo from another and so on...
Maybe I should also mention, that I'm mostly into trash and (melodic) death metal, but starting of with some metal classics as Black Sabbath is also great.
And it would be especially coul, if you could make a whole list, like "first learn this, then you should be able to play this" and so on (this would also prevent you from answering the same question in a few days again )
Thanks!

So how advanced are you?
Do you want to focus on leads? Rythm?
I'd say..try Slayer Raining Blood if you havent learned that song already.
It's fun, pretty badass song and not tooo hard except for one or two riffs.

I like Slayer a lot, so I'll definatly give it a try (although I'm not sure, wheter I can do that extremly fast riff in the intro). Thanks a lot for that one.
Actually, I want to focus on both, rhythm and lead guitar.
I don't know, how advanced I am, cause I have no comparison. Basically I know all the techniques (legato stuff, palm muting, tapping, alternate picking...) and some theory (pentatonics, chords, theory behind modes...).
As for the Black Sabbath songs I mentioned, the rhythm parts there are a lot easier, than the stoff I'm practising beside songs (I guess Raining Blood will be a good challenge). As for the leads, I know I could play slightly more difficult stuff, but I'm also afraid of trying something too hard and getting frustrated
I hope that helps

The only riff in that song that really gave me any problems was the third one.
You know, the realy fast one just before the vocals come in that goes
DugadaDugadaDugadaDugada-Neer DugadaDugadaDugadaDugada-Neer-Neer
Slayers riffs aren't that complicated realy, they just play realy fast.

Haha yeah, me too.
To the OP: If you like melodic death I'd go for some Norther. Mirror Of Madness is a pretty fun song, although the solo could give you some trouble.

Well, that riffs really damn fast. I practised it, not even close to slayer's speed, and my hands started to hurt realy soon
I guess, it would be good to start out with something else first and use that riff just a speed exercise for now... Norther may be a good idea, thanks for that one!

Try out some Death.
Simple enough riffs and rythm, but challenging enough to keep you intrested.

Thanks for that one as well. Any Death songs, you'd suggest?
And what about the solos? Are they very hard?

Spirit Crusher, Crystal Mountain, Individual Thought Patterns
Crystal Mountain has relatively easy solo in it too.

Those songs are all good.
I'd also reccomend Pull the Plug, The Philosopher, Open Casket, Lack of Comprehension..

I would try some megadeth dude. There newer stuff is alot easier and dave's solos are always easy. I would'nt go for marty's thought. A good song riff wise from them is architecture of aggression. For solos I would go with Daves solo in sweating bullets. It's challenging but kinda easy plus you will feel like a totall badass while playing it.
I bet some Iron maiden riffs will improve you as a player aswell.

Ok, I tried to put the metioned songs in a list, starting from the easiest song and ending up with the hardest one. So my learning plan then would be:
Death - Crystal Mountain
Megadeath - Sweating Bullets
Death - Pull The Plug
Norther - Dream
Arch Enemy - We Will Rise
Iron Maiden - The Trooper
Death - Lack of Comrehension
Iron Maiden - Run To The Hills
Slayer - Rainin Blood
Ok, this should keep me busy for a while and I'm looking forward to be able to play all that songs Still, if you have some ideas of songs that could be addet to the list it would be cool. So far, thanks for all the help!

If you don`t get it , just noodle around at the first 6 frets low Eb

I'd recommend Slayer - Postmortem as well. Or Angel of Death.

Well, for Slayer I still have to work on my speed... (since I don't just want to noodle around )
Btw, I wondered if there were any easy Arch Enemy songs (I'd prefere those from the new album or the older stuff, before Wages of Sin)?

Arch Enemy is easy as shit to play on guitar. Sometimes i wonder y Jeff Loomis looks up to Michael Amot so much (spelling?) Carcass was good though.

Hmm, if you find everything from Arch Enemy easy, that doesn't really give me an idea of where to start
Anyway, I've learned all the rhythm parts of Crystal Mountain by now and just wanted to progress to the solo now. Before it starts, there is a passage and I was wondering, whether it is picked, played by pull offs or tapped. Maybe anyone knows?

Yes, it looks quite easy and I put it into the list. I'm just wondering, wheter it will sound good with just one guitar?
Thanks a lot!

from the list you have there I'd say megadeth would sound the "best" (never heard of norther so no comment) solely because they use alot less guitar harmonies than the others slayers intro's do and iron maiden has harmonies everywhere, although don't that stop you it should sound cool anyway and when you play along with the track/powertab you'll hear the harmonies.

just updating this for my own, so i remember...but if anyone got some cool and not too fast stuff (or disagrees with one song,...), feel free to answer anyway
Black Sabbath - Paranoid - DONE
Death - Crystal Mountain - DONE (but still having troubles with the 16ths at 200bpm in the solo...)
Arch Enemy - I Will Again DONE (except for the ending solo...)
Metallica - Sanitarium (can do all the rhythm guitar stuff + the intro solo)
Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls - DONE
Metallica - Fade To Black (sticking somewhere around this staccato-like riff)
Megadeath - Sweating Bullets (got rhythm down so far)
Sabaton - Primo Victoria
Death - Pull The Plug
Norther - Dream
Arch Enemy - We Will Rise
Pantera - Mouth For War
Iron Maiden - The Trooper
Death - Lack of Comrehension
Iron Maiden - Run To The Hills
Slayer - Rainin Blood
other easy soli (from an other thread) and stuff i could include in my list:
Exodus - Bonded by Blood
Slayer - War Ensemble
Testament - First Strike is Deadly
Pantera - Cowboys From Hell
Slayer - Seasons in the Abyss
Slayer - Black Magic
Testament - Electric Crown
Anthrax stuff
Led Zepellin Stuff
more Metallica

You notice how many bands cover that live? Notice how half of them stop right before that riff? I'm not sure what the problem is, really. I'm not a good guitarist at all, but anyone who can play fast can play that riff okay. Like you said, Slayer shit is fairly simple, the only obstacle is speed.
I'd add early Anthrax and Exodus to the list of stuff you should try next. Specifically, the first three Anthrax albums (especially Among the Living) and the first two Exodus albums (especially Bonded by Blood). I'd also heavily recommend all Led Zeppelin, from the heavy metal stuff to the blues to the folk to the acoustic stuff. Most of it is easy, sounds awesome, and should help expand your versatility just a little bit. Good luck.
