yea eveyone ive been running into a problem lately. im not motivated anymore. when i sit down and play i play the same shit, so im in a writing slump so to speak i guess. maybe its because the music thats out there ive either heard or it sucks and i refuse to listen to it ? because nothing is really exciting to me anymore, but i still love playing. so what im gonna ask is if any of you more experianced players ( ive played for about 6 years more or less), well fuck if any of yall players or not have any ideas on how to help me get outta this slump and get my ass back in gear.

well, seeing as you said everything you listen to sucks this one might not work for you:

personaly when i'm low on motivation or inspiration i go listen to something i like, or some band i'd love to play like. so i whack on their cd, blast the stereo and crank the guitar and just jam along how ever the fuck i want and after a while i just switch the stereo off and i'm still going and it keeps me going for a while.

yeah, that works for me too hehe...

getting a lot of new stuff to play in the form of tabs does keep you going, but you need songs you would really want to play, else, it's useless.

Maybe you can try other forms of metal?

I play for about 11 years now,
started with death and black metal, now i'm just focussing on doom and viking metal.

Maybe you can try acoustic stuff, like opeth or something.

listen to bands as: hades almighty, forgotten woods, einherjer, for something different.

When you don't have inspiration, just don't play for a day or 2.

well if you want to play fast songs, listen to alot of doom, slow songs for a while so the speed gets out of your system. then after a few days, the fast songs will sound alot better, and maybe that'll inspire you to try to match the speed.

Try listening to completely different music, like Beethoven, Bob Marley, Jethro Tull, or anything. Don´t listen to metal at all for a while and it will become exciting again.

yeah bob marley is good, so is Sade and some other bands in that style.

don't get to focused on one style to much, it'll bore you and fuck up your inspiration, I listen to diffrent kinds of metal/hardcore and when I'm fucking tired I listen to bob marley and shit (also when I'm drunk etc.)

Try doing something you've planded on doing for a while. Try listening to the radio
and change the channel after each song. Pick a favorite you havent learned yet.

hey everyone i just wanted to say thanks for all yalls help. and well its not like i think everything sucks right now, but fuckin everything comming out right now is sounding the same to me. but ive taken some advice from you fellas tryin to open up to more than one for of music. bob marely kicks ass, love his shit as well as hendrix. but theres one thing im gonna come out of hiding from. for almost a yea now ive been listening to rave shit while im tryin to go to bed. the form of what i like is called trance and the only person i like is a guy named paul oakenfold. but maybe i should listen to it more often ? because when i jam it it kinda clears my mind of all emotions and its like im just there ? i dunno but im sure someone is gonna talk shit for me likin that guy.
