fear factory
what would you guys consider fear factory? their new stuff is somewhat nu-metalish, but considering how they started out, i would consider them a death metal band. any thoughts?

I don't think the new stuff is all that nu-metal, only the latests cds where ugly..
I think the best style to put them in is industrial metal, but the older stuff does sound death-like.
I actually didn't notice the death-like part but somebody on the board discussed it and he was right, the old stuff does sound death-metallish

I would consider them fucked unless they get Dino back. If he did come back, which I doubt I'm sure it would be the same Digimortal-style mess.

Yes, probably, but the new demo songs are not all that bad (at some aren't bad.)
I don't know but I don't know how the fuck they would want to keep up playing with a bassplayer doing both bass and guitar duties.
they need a guitarplayer, I hope dino gets back to them, but I think the chances are really slim.

first album and demo was death metal with industrial influences and elements, their first remix album (fear is the mindkiller) was unique at that time and groundbreaking. demanufacture (my fave after soanm) is industrial metal, less death metal influences, growling aren't that extreme anymore (not a good thing, not a bad thing either).
obsolete was the first to be less agressive, imo a bit overproduced. digimortal was the end. i hope they don't continue, especially with christian olde wolbers on guitar, he is the one responsible for all the hip hop influences and the commercial changes they made...
well i'm just one of those "first albums were better than new crap" guys.btw. FF is one of my faves, but still i think they should quit it.

Good reason to bring back a four year old thread
.
I have a question, did they cover the song Cars, or did they make it?

As compared to slightly triggered.
OK, anyways, Archetype was a pretty decent album after the two shit albums before it. And then they went on the shitter again with the last one, whatever the fuck it was called.

i gotta disagree man transgression was a hell of alot better than some of that shit they released al little before it...have you heard it? I mean some of the guitar parts are pretty sweet. Its like the guy evolved a little.

I only heard it while riding from bar to bar in a friend's vehicle, so I guess I never gave it a decent listen. It just sounded like they were going back to the same boring bullshit the obsolete and that other album had going on. You've piqued my interest in hearing it though, and i'll give it a fair listen.

Yeah, the FF version was a real fucking dandy. I'd actually rather hear the original if I had to choose.
