Neat guitars though, kinda sad that there are more custom options for bass than there are for guitar, ah well.

Some luthiers don't have the facilities for paint spraying, or they simply don't believe in it. Black Machine for example reckons coating a guitar in paint and clear coat has adverse affects on the tone, so they only use oil finishes.

... its because paint really does have adverse affects.
my friend stripped the paint off of a strat once thinking he was guna repaint it, but it sounded so much better he decided to leave it.
paint = less sustain, less tone, less volume. its car paint, its a plastic substance... plastic doesnt vibrate as well as wood does

There you go then!
You won't really notice with EMGs and high gain distortion though, so I'm happy with painted guitars for now

if you are making an electric guitar i'm sure you can find enough sustain...especially when playing fucking metal...come on...i can understand jazz or some other music type...but metal...come on...it is all about heavy, loud, killing fucking music...not the tone that a proficient musician would notice...

I'd take a nice looking painted guitar over a plain wooden one any day.
I also prefer a satin finish over an oil one.
Just a oil finish doesn't always last, and acidity from your hands and possible oxidation and stuff doesn't make me want to get an oil finish anytime soon.
Looking at the kind of wood you use, some kind of translucent (prs style) finish would make them looking *very* good.
