I'd never before played a game which made me contemplate turning it off so that I could calm my heart-rate. As cheesy as some of the dialogue and plot is the atmosphere could hardly be any better. Quite fun to play too; nice puzzles and interesting physics/graphics.

Anyone played Limbo? It was recently released on the PC and PS3 after being an Xbox exclusive for a year. Interesting game, extremely short, overrated and kinda irritating at times but it's worth a look. 2D side-scrolling puzzle platformer pretty much sums it up!

I too was kinda annoyed by the lack of saving and the instant death, which is exactly the kind of game mechanic Thomas Grip was reeling against during his speech. I think the enemies calling me a "cunt" makes up for that though! haha

Hasn't been a new version of Counter Strike since 2004. Counter Strike Global Offensive looks pretty damn good. Hopefully the small latency bug that plaques Counter Strike Source will be gone in Global Offensive.

For those who play Fallout 3 on Windows 7 x64 and suffer constant freezing/crashing and the like, I finally found a solution that actually fuckin' works.

All of that .ini editing stuff never worked for me, so as a last resort I tried the solution that seemed the least likely to work - I installed the K-Lite Codec Pack (just the basic version) and I've been playing the game without a single freeze or crash for about 10 hours now, as well as Alt-Tabbing in and out, using dozens of console commands/cheats and basically abusing it like it was my own child.

Awesome. I've never played this game for more than a few hours until now because of the 5-minute bursts of crash-free gameplay I was getting, so it's been gathering e-dust in my Steam account since I bought it a couple of years back

I tried Broken Sword and I really lack the patience/brainpower to get past the first level...is it just solving clues the whole game?

Playing Deus Ex (the original) now is like watching a Minecraft remake of Equilibrium. The graphics, interface and input are so dated that playing it is either an act of nostalgic indulgence or an episode in an almost archaeological quest through gaming history, for whatever reason. If you aren't already a Deus Ex fan or the editor of a gaming magazine there isn't a hell of a lot there for you.

I played the game when it was first released and I tried playing it again a year or two ago when I bought it on Steam. It's hard fuckin' work, lemme tell ya. It's kinda like being a fan of Doom Metal and going back to listen to Black Sabbath out of some sort of arbitrary respect for its roots regardless of the tedium-soaked shittiness of it all.

Don't bother with the new 2011 gravitas-cow milkage, either. Or do, I'm not the boss of you!

I'm kinda looking forward to Skyrim, but not really, for the same reason I quickly lost interest in Oblivion; turned out to be an Olde English-voiced, magic spell-casting, LARPA-esque, tavern-dwelling, wench-fisting exercise in piss-offery. I wanted to split heads with a sword in first-person and to rape maidens with a cast iron gauntlet and not have to gather newts and twigs to create a flaming arrow of homosexuality for my magic cock-bow, but it wasn't to be...

I could never really get into fantasy games myself, the lore always bored me and felt, well, silly. Actually this applies to most fantasy everything: movies, books, etc. I don't know if you'd call Diablo or Shadow of the Colossus a fantasy game, but that's the kind of atmosphere I go for in "fantasy".

Graphics don't make the game, but they are an integral part of it, otherwise we'd just be using 8-bit graphics and spending a lot less on hardware/graphics design. The graphics aren't the only problem with Deus Ex, however. The interface and input/controls/environmental interaction is really fuckin' oldschool, and being a first-person shooter it's even more jarring.

Ahem, those "features" have been standard in practically ANY GAME RELEASED SINCE 2004. SHUT. UP.


Tried downloading it, can't get over the STIFF ANIMATIONS, DATED (VERY MUCH DATED) GAMEPLAY, EXCRUTIATING AND EMBARASSING VOICE ACTING, UNINTRESTING QUESTS, LAME ASS SELF-ABSORBED STORY, CLUNKY MOVEMENT, and EVERYFUCKINGTHING ELSE.


This would just be a really really really sub-par game (it is not a good game - not at all) but it's been made into a horrific joke thanks to the "NEW ERA OF GAMING APPROACHETH" bullshit of the creators. NOTHING in this game is new, and NOTHING hasn't been done. The entire design is so very, very, very old. And if they'd go bankrupt or all get asbestos that would make my fucking day.

RAGE was quite the disappointment aswell. Not as terrible or overreacted on as that "game" mentioned above here, it had it's charms and by all means was a much more intresting and recognition-worthy attempt. But incredibly short. Seriously, I thought I was juuust about 25% in or so, then suddenly BAM end credits. I didn't understand it, I had only reached 2 "hubs"? Two very small ones at that? Wasn't the story just kicking in? I thought this was literally going to be the actual start of the story, this is where it begins! Nope. I even reloaded cause I thought I hit a hilarious bug, but no.


Also, the "charming, kinda quirky" atmosphere really destroys some parts. You'll get those Borderlands-esque characters (NOT CLAPTRAP, FUCK THAT FAR OFF ATTEMPT AT """""HUMOUR"""") making everything kinda "goofy", which totally destroys the atmosphere of one level in a place called "Dead City". It's well created, truly abandoned feel and some Silent Hill-esque moments (blood coming out of the fucking walls wtfwtfwtfwtfffff) but hey wait this is a "funny" game. Atmosphere gone.

And also, didn't get a single iota of "post apocalyptic"-vibe. The setting is well and all, but post apocalyptic nah not really, they just could have said/set the setting was in Kansas but a bit different.


So yeah not a bad game and definately some fun gameplay mechanics, but for real the end credits come out of nowhere, incredible.

Does anyone here have any experience creating trainers for PC games? I need a trainer for GTA: San Andreas but none of the ones I've found for the 3.0 Steam version works properly for me (probably because I'm using Windows 7 x64). All I need is God Mode, I have standard key-input cheats that will cover weaponry and such. There's a God Mode cheat for the game but it doesn't protect you from everything (explosions and falls, for instance) hence my need for divine programmer intervention.

I've tried doing it myself, but it's beyond my capabilities. I can give myself infinite ammo and the like, but only temporarily; when I restart the game the memory addresses change thus requiring me to do it all over again, but that's about all I can do.

Well remember, that game came out in 2000. All that game technology was new at the time. The only other game I recall that was like that was System Shock 2. I just beat Deus Ex the other day and I still founded entertaining. It brought back memories and at the time, my pc wasn't powerful enough to run it haha! I think Eidos did go under, btw.

Regarding my previous GTA-related post, I've found a "downgrader" which converts the 3.0 Steam version down to 1.0 (or 1.01 if you like), thus allowing the use of older trainers. Works a treat.

I found that I had to set compatibility options for the .exe in question to Windows XP SP3 (earlier OSs will probably work too), because my mouse stopped working in-game.

OH THANK GOD. After I finished the first one, my life was so empty. There was nothing to fill the many hours of free time I had. Now I can go back to a dark room and slowly start to develop temporary psychosis once again.

I'm getting extremely excited about the gradually unravelling story of this new game. Frictional Games (the devs) have apparently teamed up with The Chinese Room (who developed the interesting Dear Esther) and are working on a new survival horror game. I'm not sure what link there is to the original Amnesia other than the fact that "AMNESIA" is printed across the image on the nextfrictionalgame.com website haha.

The image is now unblurred and there has been a massive and impressive amount of cat and mouse going on between fans and the devs on the forum - long story short there was a lot of cryptic decoding and "pretend" website hacking which revealed the following info:

1. The game is a joint effort between Frictional and The Chinese Room codenamed "gameB".
2. It's a first-person survival horror game, presumably using the latest Amnesia engine.
3. The deciphered cryptic message reads:

A MACHINE FOR PIGS COMING FALL TWO THOUSAND TWELVE

4. There are two pieces of concept art which have been confirmed/uncovered, with some potentially-related artwork on the thechineseroom.co.uk website.

5. A human slaughterhouse/factory seems to be the basis of the story/location. The humans in the story are considered pigs, and the dismembered trunk of a human is seen hanging from a transport rail in the middle of the first image. It looks as if it's being led into a furnace for disposal judging by the bubbling blood on the ground and the bright yellow/white glow from the exit of the tunnel.

The whole thing sounds fucking brutal and horrendously dark. ME LIKES!!!!!!!!!!

I have been playing blacklight retribution lately, free multiplayer shooter if anyone is interested. Pretty challenging at first too, I'd say harder than most online shooters.
