This thread is all about a picking technique, speed with fingers, this is based on the song 'Right On time' by 'The Red Hot Chili Peppers' ( i know its not metal but i need help on this one, and this is technique) if u have the album californication, then u might know it, or you could just download it and listen to the 2nd bass riff, the tab is at this address

listen to the song and u will hear the speed, i need tips on how to get the speed, or any techniques on how to pick it, using 3 fingers or so and what fingers to use where.

hm, I can play about all the songs from that album, It's been a while though since I've played this one.

its hard to fit the fingering on there, so match it up yourself

i m a m i m a m i m a m i m a m etc..

so basically, your i and the m plays the lowest string, then when you go up, your a is already close to the third string, so play a and m on that. so on and so forth. i hope this is easy to undertsand

Haha, yeah but even when using a pick its still quite hard if you actually listen to the speed that flea plays it..the chorus that is.

sometimes, when its speed where your playing notes on 1 string, then quickly going to another string, its just easier to use your fingers.

I think I heard somewhere that metallica wouldn't let him outplay Cliff so he was forced to play shitty (and that's one of the reasons he quit). But who cares about metallica anyway. I don't mind him on Flotsam and Jetsam though.
