I've got an RG8320 J-Custom and I love it. Unfortunately, it'll set you back between £1,250 and £1,400 depending on where you shop. I can tell you, though, the extra investment will be worth it.

damn, that is almost 2000 in euros..so that'd be 3000 in dollars, I think?

That's a lot more than the guy was thinking about

Might help if you specify which currency you hoping to be less than a grand in!

I assumed it was Sterling?

I got my used RG1570 for about $500 and I love it. Other than the stock pickups (which I replaced, only cost about $90 for a set of new ones) the guitar is all top of the line parts. Wizard Prestige neck, Edge Pro tremolo, basswood body, locking nut, all that good stuff.

Yea, a fair priced Ibanez RG or S series would satisfy you and pocketbook. I've got a RGT I got for about $350 USD. Higher class appointments on a moderately priced guitar.

At least when you buy new you know what you're getting. I just bought a Jackson DKMG off Ebay and it had a fair few more dings and scratches than described (and I specifically asked him to describe them cos his photos were shit), but it seems to be all original and in good working order otherwise.

Haha so true, this just happened with a Jackson Warrior I just got. It was listed as "flawless", looked hot in the pictures, so I bought it, and now I need to change the pickup bevels because they got smashed and broken off on all the corners where the screws are by the previous owner. Not exactly "flawless", haha.

Speaking of shit photos... I had my eye on a flame-red top Warrior before that one. In one photo the seller put up, it looked as if a giant ball of dust was sitting in the case with the guitar. When I asked the seller what was up with that, he failed to mention in the ad there was a chip on the long lower body horn that looked like someone tried to kakate chop it - and I thought it was a stupid ball of dust. Good thing I asked!

EDIT ::: I just remembered RG's fully loaded with EMGs appear on eBay alot and go for about $400 - $500 depending on condition, at least as far as I've seen. Brand new that kind of axe would probably go for over $700 (thinking of the DKMG from Jackson that comes standard with EMGs.)

I had an RG and loved it till I got my s-series. I fair dinkum love that thing, it's gorgeous. Light, easy to play ( which makes it better for an unco like me ) and the ZR tremelo's smooth as. I also prefer a 22 fret neck. Not sure if the S's come with a 24 if it's a nessecity, I also like just the 2 humbuckers (I swapped to Blackouts ), the single coil in the centre annoyed me, I kept "picking" it. Oh I got the 520ex.
