Exclamation the best Distortion pedal or rack close to Metalzone MT-2

hi there guys..

here is my question..

i love my metalzone pedal.. but gave me a lot of Hum specially when im not playing (i use the amp on clean effect)...already tried the "noise supressor" (boss) didnt work..so i have to use my line 6, using the "insane effect", is not bad but metal zone is way better...(without the hummm)
there is anyway to control the "hum" on the metalzone?... my pedal is way better than my line 6 effect...but i cant really use it..too much problems...

i was looking for something close to metalzone or better...

*i have a bc rich guitar and i use a line6 spider 2x12 amp...*

you guys can check my band here
www.myspace.com/wolfgate Thank you!..

damn, thats some noob equipment you got there

hmm.. I dislike pedal distortion..but you might try the Boss HM2 pedal.

There is something wrong with all these pedals with "metal" in the name though, like they;re cashing into the hype, dunno..

You could try some equalizing, maybe a EQ pedal or something. With the right settings, you can turn down the gain on the MT2 so you won't have so many noise, and it'll sound a lot better too.

Im suprised that the BOSS NS-2 didn't cut down on the initial noise issue, so check your cables or the wiring in your axe.

He's right. Too much gain can totally shittify your sound, kill your playing dynamics and amplify all the noise in your setup. Alot of players I see use way much more gain than they really have to.

If you want a distortion that's in your face and raw but not shitty, try some good solid state amps out, like the better Crates, I find those have a slightly more pro "feel" like the Metalzone but still searing as hell. Seriously though it's all about amp distortion.

BTW it's crazy to see you on this forum man. You may not remember, but you used to play guitars in SRL from Hollywood with me for a little while in 2004. That band has been history for like almost 3 years dude. Nothing good ever came of it, and I was sick and tired of all the bullshit (you know exactly what I mean.) Cool to see you and Will are still jamming together. But yeah man I remember that Spider combo, I always thought Line 6's "Insane" amp model was pretty good (back then).

that's how I've always felt about them. it's almost purely marketing, the target being guitar newbies and those to whom it never occurred that in the beginning there were no such things as "metal" or even worse "death metal" distortion pedals and the sound everyone was getting back then was a hundred times better.

There is a lot to bitch about those MT2 pedals, but at least BOSS has the decency to include a gain knob

The mt2 isn't THAT bad. Its a worthwhile pedal for somebody who doesn't specialize in getting good quality gain all the time. It does a good enough job for somebody who doesn't play metal in a band or has any serious plans on recording.

Truth be told, of all the pedals I used to have, it was probably the best one I had.

I've been telling anyone having a MT2 the same for years, but with an equalizer after the MT2, it actualy can sound pretty decent if you boost the lows a bit and cut the highs a bit.

The Mt2 has decent gain and sustain, but the lows are just too flabby, and the highs sound like a can of bees. But adjusting them on the pedal itself just..doesn't work somehow.

Want to hear something funny though?
One of the lead guitarists I used to play, used his MT2 as a boost pedal while playing through his Pod 2.0.

He always wondered where all the noise, feedback and humm came from

haha. Maybe all the transistor distortion....

I liked the sound of the MT2. I can definitely see how the lows could use some help.

funny fact: line6 spider's dont sound good with pedals.

if you plugged that pedal into any other amp, it woudl be VASTLY different. Also due to the nature of the digital preamp, typically running distortion pedals through the clean channel cleans them up to a point where they dont sound like the pedal anymore

Try using the insane green channel and run the mids above half, that will SLAY the mt-2 for blackmetal tonez. Trust. I had a spider II for a year, and was endlessly tweaking it.

Another trick i learned is use the metal green or red channel, and keep the gain low, turn on the pedal, and then slowly increase the gain until you can hear the pedal through it.

If I recall he used a BBE Sonic Maximizer but his tone sounds exactly like a high gain Randall does.
