my stomach hurts pretty bad right now. it started about 4 hours ago and is still hurting. the pain is right under my belly button in the middle of my stomach. I feels like it could be gas... idk what else it could be. I'm burping a lot. I already sat on the throne and didn't get any significant luck. All I have here in my dorm are antacid tablets and ibuprofen. I just ate 4 tablets and they seemed to help a tiny bit but the pain is definitely still there. any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

it is sort of how you described it, but it's a very gradual cycle. It actually just stopped hurting altogether just now which is a miracle because my god it was bad. just before it stopped, I started salivating like crazy which led me to believe I was gonna puke so I dragged myself to the ol' porcelain god and sat there for a few minutes and luckily nothing happened. so I slowly stood up and the pain was gone.

I will be doing economic, political, and cultural intelligence. So needless to say i have ALOT of preparations to do before i get in country on the side of reading books. I have about 5 in mind i need to get through. One of which is the Arab Mind which is a huge fucking book.

Oh yeah, i'm gonna see if i can do an indepedent study for my major. (sociology) Which should be EASY to convince them to do. If i can get that done and get like 3 or 6 credits (1 or 2 classes) i will be able to come back and take like 1 maybe 2 classes.

I mean why wouldn't they take it? How often if ever do they get sociological experience in A. A war zone or B. a place like Iraq / sensitive middle east location? Eggggxactly. It was my friends idea and its a damn good one.

My bro just called me from his MOS school the other day. He said the marines just moved basic from 13weeks(?) to 11weeks(?) and that even people who signed up to be admins are gonna get shipped out to Iraq.

They haven't changed bootcamp. And it doesn't matter what your mos is, all job fields are needed in Iraq and other places. We are designed and oriented for battle so it would be stupid to have jobs that weren't deployed.

Also i'm not sorry i'm heading out. I'm fairly excited about it. I will do what i'm told to do, and i don't plan on being in being in situations that i will need to "dodge and weave" as you put it. I am going to sit behind a desk and type intelligence reports and answer phones to take salute and spot reports. The chance of me "leaving the wire" are fairly slim if not impossible, but needless to say if i'm going over and i get a chance to leave base i'll do it. Its worth going there and getting the full experience. Regardless of the fear one might have, you need to get past that to live your life. The chance of me getting killed is probably less likely than a car crash here in america. All of the fighting has basically ended and only now and again there are mortors, and nearly all of that isn't where i'm going. Don't forget i'm in the Marines, not the army, we actually have our shit locked down and secured. Hence why most marines that go out there now especially end up being bored.

a couple of my friends are going over soon.. one is a marine NCO and is leaving on the 18th of this month. he isn't in the infantry, so like you, he won't be out kicking in doors..but there is still the chance he could get pulled into a position he wasn't originally sent there for. the other is in the air force..he's heading over in september as part of an AWACS crew...he's a scope dope. they'll have a few F15 escort at least and at all times.

well my post isn't as scary as TM's but i too am leaving soon...sooner than later actually. as of tuesday i won't have internet access for a few months. i'm heading out to newport, RI for OCS. it's a 13 week training course for naval officers. i'll wind up with internet access towards the end, but it will be limited as well as conditional. after monday night, i won't be here to post at all for a while, so i wish you all well, and will be back when i can.

after i finish OCS, i'll be staying in newport for at least 3 more weeks for Jr. SWOS (junior surface warfare officer school..we do a tour on a real ship then come back and complete the official/real SWOS) and then will be off to my first ship/port of duty.

edit..the only way i'd wind up in a similar boat as TM is through IA. which is individual augmentation. a lot of SWOs are getting IA and it's slowly becoming a normal part of our career. IA is basically taking someone from their job and sticking them with an army or marine unit. most likely i wouldn't wind up in a street sweeping unit..but it really depends i guess. as TM has said..i'm up for whatever they give me. that's part of the deal.

No. Proaz they are not decreasing the time in bootcamp for the marine corps. I don't know what your friend told you but thats far from the case. Marine Corps bootcamp hasn't been changed in .... phew.. .no fucking idea how long. We don't need Marines SO BAD as to undercut any possible training they could have. We aren't the army.

If anything bootcamp i would imagine would get increased in length.

It's fucking big. Like 600 mb and the add-on (drumkit from hell) is like 400 mb. I can give you the torrents. they should finish downloading within a night. It comes with an installer. Just install it. It automatically find the folder in wich your plugins are located and you can load it up. Don't know how it works in cool edit but I'm sure you can find it on the internet. I use it in reaper. And on youtube you can find a lot of tutorial videos.
