Ok, i was tuning down my guitar, and when i got to the high e and started tuning it down and it just fuckin broke! ive been playin guitar for a few years and i know i was loosening the string and not tightening it. how the hell is this even possible?

weak spot in the string got exposed and broke.
not a big deal aren't guitar strings like 3 bucks each?

That used to happen to me all the time. I think it's because I rarely changed strings back then and they just got old.....not sure. I try to have a guitar for every tuning I use so I don't have to worry about that....but tht gets hard to do. that's why 7-strings are cool.....you have standard and B in one guitar......I miss my seven string!!!!!!!

yea i wish i could afford to have a guitar for each tuning, and yea strings are rly cheap but im a lazy bastard and the nearest place that has em is like 30 mins away lol. i think it was just a crappy brand of strings, since i had another of the same break pretty soon after i bought it. i guess im a cheap bastard too

If you change the tuning on your guitar often then the string breaking could have been due to metal fatigue. Basically, if you bend metal back and forth to many times it will eventually weaken and snap.

usually you can just go to the guy at the counter and say like "man, i need a b string, do you have any singles available?"...my store they only have nickle, the steel ones come in packs. But it's like, a buck, not even.

That's why base players do nasty shit with their strings, like cooking them, rather then paying a new pack

I'm with soulie on this.. you can only increase and decrease tension on a piece of metal so many times before it tells you to fuck off..

Especialy considering guitar strings, they are wound up around the machine heads, right? So there is a weak spot, that normaly gets bended a bit, but when you decrease tension, that spot gets exposed, and gets straightened again (read, re-bended). Do that a couple of times, and they snap.

But yeah, it all doesn't matter.. use the oppertunity to corrupt some new pristine pure strings with your finger grease

Happened to me the other day while adjusting my Floyd Rose. I was already frustrated enough with getting the thing tuned, putting on new strings pissed me off even more.

If you're re-tunning often, they'll break regardless of the direction you're tunning. Happens to me ALL THE TIME with my acoustic because I'm always switching tunnings. Its a pain, especially because I usually use expensive strings (Elixers).

Yeah, with the exchange prices as they are, imported musical gear should be cheaper now here..
but it's realy crappy, prices are just realy realy high for musical instruments comparativly, I think it has something to do with low competition on stores here, and the fact most musicians here aren't realy picky on the prices anyhow.

Be glad youre not buying 6501's back from us. It's like double as expensive, and that excludes shipping and taxes

you know he didnt even say where the string was breaking? at least i didnt see it if he did. maybe its breaking at the bridge? could be like a little spur in the saddle or something like that.
