7 String Guitars

i have been playing guitar for a couple of years now and now ive begun to come up with stuff of my own which is actually worth something. ive come to like playing in Bb tuning, but i miss the high E and ive been thinking about getting a 7 string. how easy is it to switch to 7 strings after playing with 6 for ages? if i buy a 7 i want it to have emgs, an OFR and a fairly thin neck if possible. the only guitar i have found that fits this is the Schecter Jeff Loomis Signature but i have read review which say it has a thick neck, which could be a problem as my hands are not massive. does anyone have this guitar or could anyone recommend another guitar which fits my spec?

Ibanez has a few japanese models at http://www.ikebe-gakki.com/shopping...ate=1&brand=101 that are loaded with EMG's.

Switching from 6's to 7's isn't really a big deal either.

You could also just take a 7 string to a luthier and have him route it as well...just make sure he is reputable.

Schecter necks are definetly chunkier than Jacksons, and alot chunkier than Ibanez, but they are by no means uncomfortable. Getting used to them isn't that big of a deal. Otherwise get an Ibanez RG7321, and add the EMGs and OFR in there later on. Or, check out the new Xiphos 7 string that just came out - here.

thanks for the replies. i really wanted a 7 string because i wanted my next guitar to have a floyd and i from what ive heard i figured it would be too hard to set one up in Bb on a 6 string. i might as well ask, how hard would this be? im a total noob on whammy bars as i havent had a guitar with one and i havent had to set one up.

I have an esp Ltd m 207 7 string guitar. Very nice guitar for the price but they don't make them anymore. You would have to look on e-bay for that.
I've got pictures of the guitar in the pics of my gear thread at gear and recording. and setting up a floyd isn't that difficult. There are a lot of tutorials found on the internet. even on youtube

You might find the string spacing is a little closer on some 7 strings, but you'll get used to it.

Setting up a 6 string with a trem isn't that hard if you know what you're doing. You just wouldn't want to switch back and forth a lot, thats all.

if you want a quality seven string go for ibanez.
not in terms of quality, because other companies match it such as schecter, jackson, esp etc etc

BUT

if you go for a 90s model off ebay you can pick up some great deals on some great guitars. recently i snagged up an ibanez '99 RG7621 for under $260 which is stupidy cheap for a japanese 7 string with dimarzios in my opinion (here in the UK anyway).

if you want a trem go for an Ibanez RG7620. it will be second hand unless your lucky, but it wont be expensive and it will be a great guitar.

Schecter is coming out with a black and a white hellraiser for 2008 with floyd roses, which make them basically the same as the Loomis except without the maple fretboard. Personally I love Schecter 7-strings the most.

Yeah man, Schecter 7-strings really are beautiful guitars. Ibanez are sweet too, but Schecter are works of art

One of my firends has two 7620's, and another mate has one, and the trems are fine. The Ibanez Edge is the best trem they've made.
