Need a GOOD 4-string guitar.

Now I'm pondering to buy a new bass, since my current Washburn doesn't really cut it with accoustic parts conserning versatility.

Now I was thinking about buying this absolute beauty, but I'd rather play a 4-string actually.

So actually I'm looking for that bass, or something REALLY close (5 knobs!), maaaybe the same colour but in 4-string format. Any hints?

Hm, this would be the four-string version...

This one would be the alternative I'd offer, almost the same specs although it has a different form you might not like...

my friend has one of these, it worked beautifully and sounded great for 2 months then the action started to creep up.

the strings are about a quarter inch from the fingerboard now.

That's a really nice bass. I love the shape. I like the 5-string model much better though.

Crap, bad news, but isn't that an easy "bring-it-to-the-guitar-shop"-fix? Cause I can't stand high action. Anyone else got experience with that bass?

it really depends, we think his truss rod is stripped or torqued all out of whack, he's amazing at doing set ups and he can't fix it.

Hmmmm that seems like a major issue, but I think it's just his bass? If the entire series would have a defect this big... Quite unrealistic, no?

Curse you making me all doubting my choices!

Well I finally decided, it's an ESP B254. (I must say it looks UGLY in these pictures, but in real life it's actually a lot darker. I planned on getting it airbrushed, but it's juuust fine the way it is now).

And I'm really quite statisfied about it. Got it set-upped, it plays extreeeeeemely tight, the EQ càn be a bit unhandy, since changing anything affects the volume a bit too much, but it's extrémely cool to be able to switch from a Watain-y sound to an Interpol-sound on the fly.
It's Agathis-wood which I was a bit 'hmmm' about since it would dent really fast. Nothing of that till now though, it feels robust enough.

But what the FUCK is up with ESP discontinueing ALL their shit? I was looking for a B500 (about the same but in matte black and different woods), only to find out that it was discontinued in favour of the ESP B2005 25th anniversairy (again, the same but a different fret inlay and 300 bucks more expensive, fuck you ESP), which was discontinued on itself aswell! Too bad all the remaining B500's are in America, but I'm hella statisfied with the B254 anyway.

I really don't think it is on those pictures.

It's this but when I held mine next to the screen and almost knocked one of my speakers off of the desk it stíll appeared a little bit darker. No yellow to be found, it's brown really.

Edit: eeeeeeeeew, the bassplayer from Aborted uses the same bass. So
here is where you can see the colour.
