Opinions on IRONBIRD project?

yo.

basically im sick and tired of looking for a new guitar, i want something different, not just your average superstrat shape, blah blah i could go on forever, ill cut the shit.

i am thinking about buying this

http://www.thomann.de/gb/bc_rich_ironbird.htm

i know it would be absolute shite out of the box so therefore i plan these following modifications.

1.get rid of the shitty neck, track down an old bc rich usa neck.
2.rip out the pickups, put an X2N in the bridge, possible fill in the neck pickup cavity (doesnt really matter too much)
3.tear out all of the chrome hardware, replace it all with quality american made hardware in black.
4.get rid of all the knobs except volume and pickup selector if i dont fill in neck pickup.
5. refinish it in a colour of my chouse

im thinking of doing this because if i pull it off it will give me one POTENTIALLY sick axxe. it wont cost an amazing amount as i have a good frend/tutor who is also an experienced luthier.

what i want to know, and to get your opinions on is whether it will be turned into a good playign guitar after the modifications have taken place. effectively the only thing left of the original guitar will be the body. will it be alright? i dont want to spend money pimping a guitar is its going to turn out to be mediocre, i mean i want this to be a GOOD guitar, not an average one.

anyone done anything like this in the past? any adivce offered would be VERY GREATLY appreciated.

thanks - JMH

You need to make sure that the replacement neck matches the current one in heel dimensions and also scale length, otherwise you'll end up with a neck that doesn't fit properly in the pocket and/or something that won't play in tune

Refinishing is a fairly expensive procedure too, but the rest of the things you have listed are good things to upgrade a guitar.

thanks for the advice, anyone know of anywhere where it would be possible to get a usa bc rich 24 fret neck? or possibly a reasonable custom made neck?

thanks.

Finding necks arent that hard, especially if you don't care about which brand it is.
