indestructible picks?
You know how when you use a pick after a long time, the tip of the pick that constantly touches the strings starts to shred away, making the point flat? That's the problem I have. I use Dunlop Tortex Sharps at 1.5 mm, and I sharpen these when the edge starts to flat and dull out like I described before. But obviously, this is a pain in the ass and I have to do this on all my picks like twice a week. I used Gator Grip 2 mm's before and they had the same issue. I don't think I'd want to go to a metal/aluminum pick, since my tone is already on the bright side. I've tried Jazz III's but they're too tiny and still lose their point after a while. So I'm wondering if anyone knows some kind of special brand of picks out there that never, ever degrades (or close to it), preferably with a sharp point.

I've never heard of an indestructible pick, but they might exist. Google it.
Something that might help your pick's life is to pay attention the angel that you're picking at. The angel at which you pick might have an effect on how quickly it gets shredded. Not sure though.

i've never heard of an indestructible pick either. they are cheap enough though..just get some new ones. not the best solution i suppose. i love using the same old pick all the time..just grow used to them as they go. the pick i've been using is almost to the point where i can't use it anymore..basstendencies gave it to me a few years ago. i think it's about the size of a penny. it started at the standard size.

i just got used to using a smaller pick..then when i used a new one (mainly because i temporarily lost the small one) it felt weird.

Jeez. Muscians, shouldn't be allowed to walk outdoors without a leash... what're you looking at. Oh. Right. Never mind me.
Actually, about a year ago I discovered these picks called sharkfin picks, for obvious reasons. At the moment I can't remember who makes them, but I can check it if anyone's wondering. Thing is, the ones I bought a year ago still looks the same. Of course, all the two sizes I've seen of them are pretty thin, works wonders for me but everyone's different. But I think they might be what you're looking for, after all they've endured being used on average three hours a day.

Yeah I've seen those Sharkfin picks. They have a serrated edge, are made out of nylon, and there's like 3 ways to pick your notes. I have heard that they last a long, long time, but unfortunatley like you said, they are thin as fuck. Any pick I can bend in my hand is too thin for me. Plus I need a simple sharp triangluar point, which none of the sides of the Sharkfin picks offer.
Well you guys have got me thinking. I'm starting to see that pick degradation is probably impossible to avoid due to physics. Any surface moving across steel wires that fast, after a long amount of time, would surely suffer... basically it's like a cheese grater, with the strings being the grater and the pick being the cheese.

i cant find them right now, but theres a guy who machines picks out of plexiglass. Theyre expensive as fuck, 20$ for a pick, but hes been doing this for over 20 years or something, and one of his old customers has the same one he got from the 80s or something, and it has not worn down at all, just surface scratches. Fuck i wish i could find them.

Dude you don't happen to be talking about these picks would you?
They're the biggest picks I've ever seen!
I'm going to try these because out of everything, they're the closest to what I want. But damn, 2.55 mm!!

i like my picks thick, but that first one is insane! seems like it would take some getting used to...and at $20 a pop, i'd recommend trying something somewhere between that and other "normal" thick picks.

My friend uses a jazz pick, although it is rather small. But it is made of thick, sturdy, plastic. Its pointed sharply and pinch harmonics are a breeze on it.
Just like this one.

An indestructible pick means you'll shred down your strings rather then your pick. Then you'd ask where to get indestructible strings

too true. i have a sterling silver pick and it just kills my strings. But its a flat piece of silver, no beveling. Beveling them picks really helps.

Yeah that's true. Why not just buy alot of picks and throw them out when they get dull dude? That's what I do. They are dirt cheap, especially if you buy them in bulk off the net.
If you are looking for something pointy, that one Trichephalic posted is probably what you're looking for.

I once bought a bigass plastic bag filled with picks, on ebay, years ago!
And I'm still not finished using them
Well, mainly because I prefer Jazz III's, and those take a long time before they're finished.
Still, I never have that "goddamnit I can't find my pick and now I can't play guitar " problems some people have..

Gift picks? There's a funny thing I remember..
One of my exes once made a 'guitar pick' necklace or something like it for me.
It looked kinda nice, though the picks were all bigass Gibson picks I'd never use
Never wore it tough, it looked pretty silly
