peavey ultra plus
watched one of these go for $200 on ebay last night. 120 watts all tube, high gain, nice aesthetics. seems like a good deal? anyone owned one?

I've heard some clips of it and it sounds great for the price. Versatile and well built.

That's a very good price for an amp that was the predecessor to the XXX and 5150, I've heard nothing but good things about it.

I got a Peavey VTM120 off ebay for like $230. Basically the same amp, 120w all tube, pulls that killer 'brown' sound off nicely. I love my amp... I'd never get rid of it and for under $300... bet! I also notice that Baroness plays VTM120's... anyways, Peavey made some killer all tube amps back around the 80's, so I'd snag one up, although I'm not sure how old or when they made the ultra plus.

The VTM is nothing like the Ultras FYI. The Ultra's have way more gain(like 4 or 5 preamp tubes, and the Ultra Plus has an additional one. Just like the 5150 and 5150+).

Hi there,
I have an Ultra Plus 120 watt head for sale. I also have a brand new footswitch for it.
I just replaced the preamp tubes. They were some cheap Chinese tubes. Now it has (3) Sovtek 12AX7A and (1) Electro Harmonix 12AX7EH. The reason for the 3 and 1 combo is that the Sovteks keep the high gain and the EH makes it a little quieter.
This combo also gets rid of the muddy sound when the gain knob is dimed.
Anyway, the amp has Sovtek power tubes in it, with about 10 hours of bedroom use on them.
I live in Summerville, SC and I am selling it for $400 plus shipping. If you saw one go for less on Ebay then sombody got a great deal. Drop me a line if you (or anybody else) might be interested.
