1. depends on your preference. In my (maxon od808) experience it really tightens it up, adds a tad of grit, boosts the mids, and takes a tip off of the bass. Makes my marshall sound like a real marshall and not like the frankenstein it is (6100lm)
2. compressors level out your volume so it doesnt decay. Basically takes out all dynamics --> but this is good when soloing and doing bends because the bends wont die out.
3. not too sure -- but mic preamps are only necessary if the PA or mixer lacks an internal one.
4. sonic maximizers are a pre-set EQ section. It basically just scoops your mids. they're a waste of usage in my opinion and you can get much better results with a real EQ.
5. k, i heard a wireless the other day and it was sweet as hell but i dont remember what its called. It ran into a small pedal-sized box that was on the pedalboard. We a/b tested it and there was virtually no difference... but that might be in part of SD blackouts, ADA mp-1 --> VHT poweramp setup.
