Opinions on B.C. Rich ASM Pro
Hi everyone. It's been a while since I posted a thread...
After looking for a guitar with good specs for my tastes and not finding one, I was going to go custom, until I found this one:

It's got all the specs I am looking for basically.
Construction: neck through
Body wood: Alder
Top style: flat top
Tuners: Grover®
Fretboard: ebony
Frets: 24 jumbo
Scale: 25 1/2”
Bridge: Floyd Rose® Original
Pickups: EMG® 85 neck, 81 bridge
Controls: 1 volume, 1 three-way toggle and 1 tone
I honestly can't find anything better. The shape is not very "Metal", of course. It's a strat-shape guitar but I guess in the end, this is as good as it can get for me besides going custom.
So, I e-mailed B.C. Rich and asked them whether it's a USA-made guitar or not. I'm looking forward to their reply and also for tomorrow morning, when I will be contacting my local dealer to ask him for the price.

Who the fuck cares if it's "metal" looking? What does Malmsteen play? What did Becker play? STRATS.
With those specs, that guitar has got to be amazing. That is, if you don't mind paying (it HAS to be 2 grand) out your asshole.

Jackson and I think Ibanez make neckthru superstrats for a lot less money than what a US BCR might cost you. Just a thought.

MetalThrashingMad: Yes, the looks come second. The sound is the most important thing.
Soeru: You're right. Ibanez makes guitars which are just as good and are cheaper. The necks are really comfortable to play, too, as you may know. The best Ibanez at the moment seems to be the RGT320Z Prestige. But on the page I have, it doesn't say whether the fretboard is made of ebony or rosewood. Anyways... Ibanez is value for money.

Actually It probably isn't too expensive. Their new Dark Arts Warlocks have real floyds and stuff and are like $700.

It does look pricey, i know jeff hanneman's guitar is about 3000$, and it has generally the same specs...my guess is this is at least a grand, same guitar minus the inlay's, and the name behind it.
Still looks pretty badass, i'd buy it

Yeah most of their newer stuff has been pretty bad. The new lineup looks alright. At least they have original stuff now.
The B.C Richs I own are either from the old NJ series in the 80s or USA.

Yeah every guitar company makes cheap shit. I've played shitty Jacksons, ESP's, Ibanez', BC Rich... but I've also played KV2's, a Kirk Hammet ESP, some nice RG's and RGT's...

Hey David,
Thanks for the message. The only BC Rich guitars that are made in the States are the Hand Crafted Models in the Custom Shop. The Assassin ASM Pro is made in Korea.

Buying a bc rich from korea is a very bad idea.
I wouldnt touch anything bar the custom shop but then again im not stupid enough to pay what they charge for them.

I had an NJ Warlock from 2002 or 3, and it was a great guitar once I replaced the bridge pickup. Could have done with extra jumbo frets, but the trem was great. Can't remember where it was made. I'm guessing it was Korean.
I'd go for a Jackson DKMG. Japanese made Dinky, EMGs. Licenced Floyd though.

I tried some of their Korean models. Mostly the higher end ones (Classic series/Caliber ect) and I found them fine. If it has all the specs you want and the price is right go for it. Don't blow a shit load of cash just to have it made in the states and have it say "Custom" when all the specs you want are right there. I can almost guarantee that if you play the ASM pro through an amp it will be fine. Cause bottom line is it's what it sounds like, not were it's made or how it looks.

Epiphone and many other companies get guitars made in Korea due to super cheap labor. The problem with korean made guitars today is quality control. Not every guitar that comes off the production line is the same. Some have better wood grain, some are cut better, and some are constructed better. There are production standards but the spec range is liberal for the sake of higher delivery numbers. Not every guitar is given the attention that may be needed. Its hit or miss but you have to play several guitars before you find the right one, even of the same model if its made in Korea. When I bought my Epiphone explorer I played dozens of both Gibson and Epiphone before I found one I really liked. The USA made Gibson were more consistent in spec but there are some Epiphones that play and sound better than Gibsons. They are not rare to find either and I bought one. The only problem mine had was the bridge pickup was 1/16 below where it needed to be but I fixed that problem easy. USA made guitars are made with attention to detail but it doesn't always make them better and they will cost way more. I think there is a 1/10 fluke from Korea made guitars that have huge potential to be awesome guitars. I would try out as many B.C.R ASM guitars that you can until you find one that you really like and get it customized 3rd party. |
