I've heard the swim qual for the marines is harder than the navy. I've also heard you don't have to be able to swim to be in the navy.

i don't know what the swim test for marines is..what is it? you just might be right on the not needing to swim though..they did ask me if i could swim during the application process. 
for the navy, i have to swim 500 yards in ~12-13ish minutes tops, then tread water for 5 min. i'm guessing that part is after the run, push/sit ups. |

fell on my ass today. went out to check the mail with my dog under my arm. got a few packages in the mail so i had my hands full, stepped on some ice, and i had on my crappy skateboarding (flat sole) shoes. fell right down like i was sitting, so i just landed on my ass. if i was normal it wouldnt have been a big deal but it fucking HURT. felt like somebody grabbed me by the metal rods and shook me from the insides. felt nauseous for an hour or so after
moral of story dont check the mail with a dog under one arm and shitty shoes on

The marines have a few tests. But the lowest swim qual is something like swimming across the pool after jumping off a high dive or somethin then later tredding water for liek 10 minutes with camis on but no boots.
The later ones get much tougher. I've gotten up to level 2. Level 1 you have to be hand picked based on quality of different swimming strokes. Then you have to like break somebody off of you who is attempting to drown you.

I feel ashamed of myself. I've been having such a dry spell as far as music is concerned, and I feel like the three songs I'm writing are gonna end up as pieces of shit if I don't get over this soon. I get, like, one good idea, and then I don't know how to move in from there. Now, I'm stuck. Anyone hate when this happens?

Xgraf. Thats not too bad of a time. If you were sitting around 1030 you'd be pretty solid i think but thats really not that bad.
Yeah there is ways to use your camis to help you but if you can't swim trust me you won't be able to do those techniques anyways.

Yeah, I've gone through droughts. It helps to just keep at it, and start simple, then build up from there. Plus, what I do when I come up with a bunch of songs that only have one good part in them... combine all the good parts
And sometimes droughts lead way into a super song-writing spree. So don't give up, at all.

Haha, come on. Don't take it so literally. Obviously I haven't heard every american rock band. There used to be some really great bands, but most of them after 80-90's have been completely crap. Which is why I stopped paying attention to them a long time ago. I should have said "nowadays rock", but I wasn't thinking about it at that moment. But of course there are exceptions.
And it's true that they didn't invent rock. It just that to me, some of them do it a hell of a lot better. And some of them combine rock with things that not that many has tried. If any. Thus not making it "new", but making it their "own". If you could say that. Or the other way, depending how you see it.
Also, this is just my opinion. It's a matter of taste. I didn't mean it as a fact.

I don't know much about American Rock at all, nor do I listen to much of anything outside of Classical Guitar, and Death Metal, but out side of Classical Guitar and Death Metal, J-Rock would have to be my 3rd favorite Genre.
Whether or not they are a decade late doesn't matter to me, and the fact they speak a language that doesn't annoy me, yet keeps me from hearing possibly retarded lyrics while still sounding good is a very big plus.
Just about every J-Rock band I've ever heard has decent to amazing musicians playing for them, and when compared to America's current pop-culture disasters, they are geniuses.
I do however, believe that the majority of the guys playing in Japanese music bands have sexual identity crisis's.

youre viewing it from a completely different culture. asian sexuality and gender roles are different than american, finnish, canadian, etc. easy to judge that whole crazy scene from our standpoint but you cant really view it how a japanese person would, so your cultural assumptions are pointless
and this isnt to say i know how japanese people think, but i do know a good deal about the differences in culture from personal experience

Comparing pop-culture to jrock is pretty much going to get you nowhere.
And its not just japanese music. Just go look at alot of asian boys as it is. By our standards most of them are having a sexual identity crisis.
The song was ok. Ok at best. Its your run of the mill "technical" guitar playing that is, like i said before very much like avenged sevenfold.
