if there is a thread hating down on this album somewhere but i missed it in the search, please point me in the right direction!
so yeah, ire works, wow what a disappointment.
how do others feel about the album? it starts off good with the 2 DEP tracks but this mike patton bullshit is pissing me off. oh and before you start, i already know - "hes a genius hes a genius DEP are geniuses you're an idiot!" i dont care.
calculating infinity and some of the older demos are still their epitome im afraid.
so how did we all feel about it?

Yea, I've only heard one song and it made me not even want to check out the rest of the album.

Ever since Miss Machine I lost faith in them. I haven't heard anything from Ire Works yet and I'm not in a hurry.

you would not notice that he in fact doesnt!
greg performs such a rip off. they are basically writing songs that faith no more did 25 years ago. its so bullshit.
there are some DEP tracks and moments but its just dumb. the whole thing.

To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from Ire Works after the somewhat disappointing Miss Machine, but it completely blew my low expectations out of the water. Ire Works is their best work since Calculating Infinity and a huge improvement on Miss Machine.
They seem to have incorporated the more readily accessible elements with a greater sense for the album as a whole as opposed to just including them for the sake of it as on Miss Machine. I found the flourishes of electronica and haunting piano - particularly on "Dead as History" and album closer "Mouth of Ghosts" - to be very tasteful and, moreso, necessary.
Sure, they're not as jarringly dissonant as on Calculating Infinity, nor do they rip through ascending and descending runs as feverishly, but I certainly don't want a re-hashed Calculating Infinity Mk II from them; it just wouldn't be Dillinger and would lower them to the status of the myriad copycats already hanging on to their coat tails. For me, Ire Works, is the logical successor to Calculating Infinity which I guess is the highest compliment I can pay.
I guess this is all testament to how legendary Calculating Infinty is if Ire Works is treated with such disdain!

Yay! Good to hear you think highly of it, John. We usually get along musically. I'll probably pick it up today.

I gave it a listen. It isn't as bad as I thought it would be. It does have oldschool Dillinger qualities. Judging by Fix Your Face, it's worth looking into.

Yeah, the first two tracks are pretty furious. The intensity drops a little after that opening gambit but they still get angry enough to keep one more than interested.

Yeah, it seems pretty solid. Their new drummer is a good replacement.

Shit I didn't even know they got rid of the old one.
Ire Works is loads better than MM, but doesn't compare to CI.

I think Chris just left of his own volition as opposed to being asked to leave.

yu guys were happy with new drummer?
its funny i was actually going to ask if they replaced the old one because the drumming on this album is far less technical and the blasts sound dumb compared to the old one. i haven't really followed th eband intimately so i didn't know, but there you go. it wasn't just me being nitpicky, it actually is a different drummer.
just unhappy with this album. can't stand the clean vocals patton style and all that shit.

I love the album, and I see no reason not to.
Does it live up to "Calculating Infinity?" No.
Is it still amazing? Yes.
I won't even bother debating it, but its been in regular rotation since it came out.
However, "Milk Lizard" as a single and the song they just played on Conan, a big thumbs down... Disappointment.

After a listen I've concluded it's not as good as CI but at least it's not Miss Machine. I'm not fond of the fact that every song isn't random math music like Fix Your Face but most are. I don't mind adding clean vocals to the formula because it gives more variety, just wished all the songs displayed random time signatures and chaos like from CI. Take Milk Lizard for example, I wished they didn't have anything like that on the album. That isn't the Dillinger I knew and loved. All and all it's listenable and okay.

Correction, they played "Black Bubblegum." Milk Lizard isn't that bad of a song, Black Bubblegum IS. It was late and I messed up. hahaha.

To each his own.
I'm still going to enjoy this album on a weekly basis.
