V-Shaped guitar for bedroom use?
I am going to buy purchasing my first "good" guitar here in the next 3-4 months. I really like the look of V-shapes, but don't know if that is going to fit my playing style since i am just going to be sitting in a chair in my bedroom. Currently using a LTD M-100 with a traditional strat-style shape.
I've played my buddy's V shape a while sitting, and it was different - a little weird. He told me also that he usually plays it standing up. Will I get used to it over time, or is that shape always going to be uncomfortable/awkward for a sitting-down player? If it is, i'm just going to forget it and stick with a traditional shape.

Vs are a bitch to sit down and play with. You can do it but it is akward.

Playing V's sitting down is easy. Either put the bottom V between your legs when you're sitting in a chair, or put the whole guitar on the right side of your right leg (right handed) if you are sitting on your bed. Playing mine like the guy in the first picture below is more comfortable than a strat for me, as it puts the neck at a more ergonomic angle.
With the V between your legs:

Sorry I couldnt get a better pic (lolol) but this guy is more or less playing his guitar (significantly larger than any V) with both legs to one side (of course with a V, you would need a strap though):

Just sit and play classical style.
I'm sure even with a strap a standard/King V would still try and slide.

i had a kerry king v for a while and classical position (1 wing inbetween legs) was the most comfortable. It was more comfy to play than my RG.
but the most comfortable guitar i have still ever played to this day was a jackson warrior.

Neck thru, picked it up off ebay. It was only 500 bucks with the case. i thought it was the Indonesian Musicyo.com version cause of the pickup configuration (H-H-nothing) without the neck pup, and because of the ridiculously low amount of money it cost.

I've got exactly the same guitar as you too. But i decided to keep the stock seymours in there. The pearly gates sounds awesome for clean stuf, sucks a bit though for distorted leads. Kickass guitar for the price, got mine for £80

I went and play tested the guitar (ibanez VBT700) i was talking about this weekend. It felt damn good. The comfort was much better for me when compared to a traditional strat shape that I am using right now. I'm definetly getting more serious about this.

He ripped on that guitar at the show though, 5 minutes worth of solo and beer

I've not played on a Dean for a long time, but you can pretty much guarantee that any neck is thicker than a Wizard neck. The Wizard II is a touch thicker I think, but even so. Due to the classic stylings I imagine Dean necks to be more of a full C shape than the flat D of Ibanez wizards.

actually, they are not very full C shaped, they are fairly thin, but much wider than a regular neck. I like them kinda, but I'd never buy another. I had a really beginner ML for a while...assuming the rest are fairly close, necks are pretty thin.

Are you familiar with Washburn? I have a 7-string one (WG57 or 58 or something) and I think that's what your describing.

WG587? haha got one of those when they apparently dropped from $999 to 150$. Yeah the neck is pretty close to a dean, maybe a tad thicker, i havent played one for a good couple years, so it's all from memory.

Awesome thanks, cause I don't mind the neck on the Washburn at all. yea I got mine for $99. The only thing i would change are the pups and even then they are pretty damn decent so I'm not gonna spend the money.

to the OP...go to the store and sit with a V. i was looking at a randy rhoads at first..then sat with one at the store. i could play..just awkwardly. it can be done, just takes getting used to. being that i didn't feel like adjusting, i went with something else.
if you have room to stand and play..go for it. my room had enough room to stand and play, not much room to move around AT ALL though..so for me, it was out of the question. i guess i could've played out in the living room all the time..but then all my music was on my computer in my room.

I'm happy to say i've bought that Ibanez V I was originally asking about when I started this thread.
I've played it for about 2 days now. It is taking awhile to adjust to the new shape and feel of a V, but I think I'll get used to it in a month. Actually, I find that I am sitting up straighter when I play, instead of curling up and hunching over the guitar, as I do with my older strat-style shaped LTD, so that is good at least. I got this thing on a ridiculous discount. Found a white one at guitar center (it was the last one in the chicago area, actually) and it was a floor model. It also had some cosmetic damage to it, as a result of poor workmanship in SE asia or wherever it was made. The owner of a local, reputable guitar repair shop (Third Coast Guitars) was in the store when I bought it, and I showed him the cosmetic damage, and asked him if he could fix it, which he said he'd be able to clean up and make it a lot better. He also confirmed to me that he was fully confident that the tone and structural integrity of the guitar was not compromised.
My old guitar is a low-end LTD M-100, so this is a great step up for me in tone (set-neck, dimarzio D activator pups) and playablity on the guitar. Hell, I'm just happy that when i do a harmonic now, it actually rings out now instead of gurgling a muffled tin sound.
My fiance came home and saw me playing it, and she looked at me all weird and said: "Wow. Where did you get that? It looks like it came from 1987."
Fucking aye!!! Ain't nothing wrong with that!

I personally don't like sitting with a rhoads. I have an RR5 and I rather like standing right with it.
Probably because of my big cock, I can't let the rhoads rest between my legs. ... No, seriously, for me it' feels not practical.
I have a fucked up acoustic guitar to practice sitting... and my rhoads to play standing.
