EMG 81 Vs Duncan Livewire Metal

yea, well, the title says it basically. i currently have an emg 81 in the bridge position of my guitar and a 60 in the neck. i was wondering how the seymour duncan metals compare to the emgs as i dont feel the emgs quite fulfil the chuggy but clear death metal sound that i need.

so - which do you think are best?

I haven't tried the Livewire pups yet but also consider the amp and gear that you use. Even the cables and the solder joints can affect your tone in drastic ways. From the way I understand it, the Livewires are an EMG equal in design so that EMG doesn't own the entire active pickup market.

the livewire metals have more output, and don't sound like a poopy emg. If theyre the SD's that use the 100k pots then they will be less compressed than emgs too.

only band i know that uses them is dark funeral.

I wouldnt blame the pickup for that, what amp/cab setup are you using?

good call, those pups do posses the ability to shred and chug. I personally do not like them, but thats because they all sound the exact same. The exact same though is usually fairly clear and chuggy...

livewires are still insane. Lets put it this way, i hate emg's after my multiple year ownership of them, and if i ever bought actives again, one would be a livewire metal.
