Dimarzio Pickup Covers? WTB?
I've got a new (old) guitar coming soon but the previous owner has swapped out the neck p'up for a Dimarzio Humbucker of some kind. It has a bright white cover though, which look a bit crap considering its 25 years old (suitably used) and a very dark Violinburst colour. I can't seem to find replacement plastic covers for their HB's though, only single coils and the metal covers. Anyone know where I can get them?

Unless you didn't want ebay.

Well, no and no. Firstly I really want the plastic covers not metal, and pretty much each company has its own pole-piece spacing anyway, but thanks for looking man.

actually most companies have the same pole spacing because the bridges that people use are pretty universal and usually made by grover or tonepros; both of which use the same spacing.
are you sure you want to undertake replacing a cover though? that means you have to cut some joints, and repot the thing =/

While we are on this topic...
Does a cover alter the sound of a pickup in any way?

yes. It deadens it a bit. The best way i can describe it is imagine singing into a microphone, and then imagine singing into a microphone with your hand over it.
Between my 2 guitars, one has covered and one is uncovered, the covered one has poopy cleans because they sound like they're coming from in a tin can or a cardboard box. And i'm using low gain 9k, alnico II pickups which should have amazing cleans.

Thats not really true, I've had loads of pickups over my period of playing and hardly any have exactly the same spacing, it may be very minimal but the difference is there. I guess changing the covers isn't as simple on an HB as it is for single coils then . Maybe I'll just sell the neck p'up then, depending on whether I like it or not.

were those stock pups or aftermarkets?
the way spacing goes is gibson pickups poles are spaced at about 50 mm which defines non f spaced
fenders are 53 mm which is f spaced.
almost all aftermarket pickups follow these guidelines, because of pickup poles werent universal, then they wouldnt line up with the strings.
anyawy, the only time you'll find the spacing outside of the above is usually if they're stock.
