i just love my peavy's, plus i find marshalls have tone, but lack the gain.

I've got the DSL, and its brilliant for thrash and metal in general. It doesnt have as much gain as the peavey, but it does brilliant. However, they really need to be played loud. Are you going to be using the amp live? If not, I'd say get the peavey

yea i will be performing live and going to the studio

ps...does the 50 watt have any tonal differneces...obvoiusly 100 will have more volume...but i wanna get a 50 cause this way i know im gonna be able to crank the tubes and therefore get the best tone

however is 50 watts marshall loud enough??..im gonna playing it thru a traynor 412 with celestion vintage 30s....total 260 watt cab

Yes 50w will be loud enough for everything except Manowars comeback tour.

The difference in volume between a 50w and a 100w is minimal. It is only a 3dB drop, and to get half the volume, you need to go down to a 10w amp. I've got a 100w JCM900, and a 50w JCM900, and i prefer the tone of the 50w, but i'm putting it down to the valves in there.

You gotta go Marshall for thrash though!

The main differences, so I keep hearing, between the two, is that the 100 will probably have slightly more low end due to a larger output transformer. However, i m sure the 50 dsl will be fine, its plenty loud for live situations.

I must admit, I love my DSL, you can use it for so many styles. It has that distinctive sound every time you plug in to it. I mainly play alot of shred, metal and blues with it. The clean sounds amazing, as does the crunch channel for slightly overdriven shred. The gain channels take you from old school 70, 80's metal/thrash to full out.

The only problems I find is that it can get far to trebly on the OD channels sometimes, but this is something you can dial out with the eq and by turning up the volume.

Keep in mind live you will not need the loudest amp on the market, because if you are playing in a bar or any other established venue you will be running a mic from your amp through the PA and monitors as well, so really, if you had a great sounding combo, that could even work for a live situation, maybe not as much for practices though.

Thanks for the help everyone its greatly appreciated!!!

i am proud to say i bought the head yesterday and have alot of trouble getting off it

and ya the 50 watts is def loud enough...(k a lil background im 18yrs old) i was playing at 4 in my room...pops comes in and says turn it down i cant even hear my own tv in the room down the hall with the doors closed...turn it down to two...pops comes back.."have u turned it down yet??!?"

i love it it sounds great thru the traynor cab....right now for my overdrive i have lead 2 with presence at 8, treble at 8, middle at 9, bass at 9, gain at 7

i like the sound alot...but if anyone has reccomendations that will result in a better quality sound, or a setting thats better for the amp to handle...please let me know...i know a lil about eq but im not smart in that area at ALL...dont know if im pushing the amp too much with the high eq settings i have right now...

ps im trying to acheive thrash metal tone...i want tight riffs with balls and solos that are crystal clear

what tubes have you got in there currently? I've heard good things from having a hi gain set of JJ's pre's in my dsl as well as winged c power tubes. , you could also get an attenuator to overdrive the power tubes. Other than that, just play and have a good time,

+1 on the attenuator, i just picked up one yesterday, smartest investment ever. I don't have to play thru my little combo amp to practice anymore, very happy about that
